TEMPE, Ariz. – Current professional lacrosse player and former Virginia Cavalier Pat Harbeson has been added to the Sun Devil Lacrosse coaching staff as a Volunteer Assistant Coach, Head Coach Tim McCormack announced in September of 2019.
"I am thrilled to announce Pat Harbeson as our volunteer assistant," Coach McCormack stated. "Pat's experiences and background will bring a lot to our team."
Harbeson is a member of the Redwoods Lacrosse Club competing in the Premiere Lacrosse League (PLL), the top professional league in the country. Prior to that he played four seasons in Major League Lacrosse (MLL), most recently for the Ohio Machine in 2018. Harbeson has been heavily involved in the sport his entire life and is ready to be a part the Sun Devil program.
"I'm extremely excited about joining the ASU Women's Lacrosse program," Harbeson remarked. "Tim, Nicole, and Dorrien's passion and commitment to turning ASU into a National Championship program along with assisting the growth of lacrosse in Arizona is what really has me energized to join the coaching staff."
Throughout his career, Harbeson been a part of winning culture and knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level. Harbeson played in all 10 regular season games for the Redwoods in 2019, scoring three goals and causing four turnovers. He has also appeared in both playoff games, as they defeated the Archers and Chaos to get to the PLL Championship game. This is not the first time he has made a championship run as a professional. Harbeson won the MLL Championship back in 2017 when his Ohio Machine defeated the Denver Outlaws.
"Pat is extremely passionate about the sport of lacrosse and he knows how to win," Coach McCormack added. "He will be a great addition to this team."
Prior to turning professional, Harbeson was a midfielder for the University of Virginia Men's Lacrosse team after prepping at Dematha Catholic High School in Maryland. He served as a short stick defensive midfielder a majority of his career, becoming a significant contributor at one of the top lacrosse programs in the country. During his four years in Charlottesville, the Cavaliers won 42 games, including the 2011 National Championship over rival Maryland.
With Harbeson joining assistant coaches Nicole Graziano and Dorrien Van Dyke, Coach McCormack has built a coaching staff that boasts a tremendous amount of both professional and collegiate playing experience.
