On July 24, 2021, Josh Doan was selected by the Arizona Coyotes as the 37th overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The pick was the first of the Coyotes' in the second round.
Junior Hockey (Chicago, USHL):
Personal: The name should sound familiar to hockey fans, and especially those in Arizona as the son of former Coyote captain Shane Doan continues his college hockey career in the desert. The Scottsdale native grew up playing for the Jr. Coyotes locally before moving to Chicago to join the Chicago Steel of the USHL.

- Led the team in goals with 16 on the season, surpassing his freshmen year mark of 12 goals to bring him to 28 goals in his ASU career.
- Ended the season on a nine-game point streak, compiling nine goals, seven assists and 16 points over the nine-game span to push the Sun Devils to a 5-4 record. Doan was able to net a point in ten of the last 11 games for ASU.
- Scored the first-ever penalty shot at Mullett Arena against St. Thomas (MN) on Jan. 28.
- Scored his first goal of the season against Bemidji State on Oct. 8 and had two assists in the same game.
- Scored the first-ever goal at Mullett Arena against Colgate on Oct. 14 and ended up scoring the last goal of the season with an overtime game-winner over Long Island on March 11th.
- Led the team with six power play goals.
- Netted his first career shorthanded goal against New Hampshire on Dec. 9.
- His two game winning goals came against Colgate on Oct. 14 and against LIU on March 11.
- Played in all 39 games for the Sun Devils totalling 38 points for the entire season.
- Went on a four-game point-scoring streak, including two goals and four assists from Nov. 11 (Alaska Anchorage) to Nov. 19 (at Clarkson)

- Set a new ASU single season record for total points scored by a freshman with 37 (12G, 25A)
- Became the new ASU single season record holder for assists by a freshman with 25
- This also matches former Sun Devil James Sanchez's single season record for assists
- Played in all 35 games during his freshman season, averaging over a point per game
- Notched his first collegiate point and multi-point game (three assists) in the home opener against UMass Lowell on Oct. 2
- He finished the UMass series with five points after adding two more assists in game two on Oct. 3
- Boasted two more three point nights against No. 11 Northeastern (1G, 2A) on Jan. 11 and RIT (1G, 2A) on Jan. 15
- Netted his first collegiate goal at No. 12 Denver on Oct. 9
- Rode a six-game point streak through the last half of the season against No. 1 Minnesota State, Alaska Fairbanks, and Long Island with six points (1G, 5A)
- Had two two-goal games at Colgate on Oct. 22 and No. 1 Minnesota State on Jan. 29
