Senior (2020-21):
- Signed an AHL deal with Hartford on March 7, 2021
- Became sixth Sun Devil to sign a non-NHL professional contract
- Finished his season with 5 goals and 11 assists, the latter leading the team in the category
- Completed his two-year Sun Devil career with 56 points in 62 games for nearly a point-per-game average
- In the final game of the year, recorded a goal and an assist for his second multi-point game of the year
- Played as the Sun Devils' top line center all season, in addition to the top power-play unit with six power-play points
Junior (2019-20):
- Became the first Sun Devil in program history -- and only -- to reach the 40 point mark in a season
- Also the first player in program history to record 30 assists in a season
- Finished tied for 10th nationally in scoring in the NCAA (40 points)
- Recorded a season-high four assists against Wisconsin on Feb. 21
- Compiled 10 multi-point games
- Had a seven-game and two, five-game point streaks over the course of the season
- Recorded a point in all but nine games
- Had four-straight multi-point games in a row in the month of November with two goals and six assists
- Developed immediate chemistry with Johnny Walker in China, and played together on the top line throughout the season
- Took over 600 faceoffs during the season, far and away more than any other teammate
- Went 326-310 at the dot
2018-19 Season:
After two seasons at Michigan, Sanchez went to Dubuque with longtime friend and fellow Sun Devil Willie Knierim before committing to ASU. During his one year in Dubuque, Sanchez recorded 16 goals and 24 assists as an assistant captain.
Sophomore at Michigan (2017-18):
- Appeared in 27 games, recording eight points (3 goals, 5 assists)
- Scored two goals in 5-3 win over Arizona State (2/23)
- Scored a goal and an assist in GLI win over Michigan State (1/2)
- Recorded an assist in Michigan's 3-1 season-opening win at St. Lawrence (10/6)
Freshman at Michigan (2016-17):
- Saw action in 34 games, recording 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists)
- Recorded first two career goals vs. Union (10/8)
- Tallied first career assist at Arizona State (11/4)
- Picked up an assist in a 5-4 OT win vs. Michigan State in GLI (12/30)
- Scored the lone goal in a 4-1 loss vs. Penn State in the B1G Tournament (3/16)
Junior Team
- Played with the United States National Team Development Program (USNTDP) Under-18 team in 2015-16, finishing the season with 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) in 64 games
- Competed in the 2015 CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game
Personal: Son to Joseph and Colleen Sanchez, he has an older brother (Joey) and an older sister (Gracie). All members of the family have participated in collegiate athletics. James is pursuing a degree in Business. James’ most exciting moment in sports was playing in the World Championship for team USA.
