Danny Phillips enters his fifth year on head coach Todd Graham’s staff. In his first four seasons, Phillips has served in the roles of Defensive Analyst and On-Campus Recruiting Manager.
Phillips’ defensive input contributed to ASU’s to back-to-back 10-win seasons and two bowl appearances in 2013-14.
Before his time with the Sun Devils, Phillips served as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Central High School, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Phillips led the Braves to a 16-14 record over three seasons.
From 2008-10 Phillips was an Assistant Football Coach at Broken Arrow High School in Oklahoma. Phillips operated as the Varsity Linebackers coach and Special Teams Coordinator.
In 2006, Phillips served as a Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach at Rice University, helping the team achieve a 7-6 overall record and their first bowl appearance in 45 years. With the addition of Phillips, Rice’s defense’s national ranking improved from 109th in 2005 to 60th in 2006.
From 2003-06, Phillips operated as the Defensive Line Coach at the University of Tulsa. During his three seasons at Tulsa, Phillips led the defensive line and helped the Golden Hurricane to a 29-22 overall record and a Conference USA Championship in 2005.
Prior to working at Tulsa University, Phillips spent 2002 as a Graduate Assistant at West Virginia University, working directly with the Linebackers Corp.
From 1997-02, Phillips served as the Special Teams Coordinator and Linebacker Coach at Allen High School, located in Allen, Texas. Phillips also operated as the Head Varsity Wrestling Coach and worked as a Biology teacher during his time at Allen.
Prior to coaching at Allen High School, Phillips spent two years as the Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Assistant at Edmond Santa Fe High School. Phillips also served as a biology teacher while at Edmond Santa Fe.
From 1993-94, Phillips served as a Linebacker Coach at Edmond Memorial High School, located in Edmond, Oklahoma.
Phillips attended the University of Central Oklahoma from 1991 to 1994 were he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education, as well as a minor in General Science and Biology.
Phillips graduated from Marlow High School, located in Marlow, Oklahoma, in 1988.
