
ASU safety Max Tabach emerging as leader (The State Press/Oct. 17, 2010)
ASU: Playmaking defensive back who appeared in 29 games over three seasons with ASU...finished with 79 tackles (53 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and a pair of interceptions...had a career year in 2010, finishing fourth on the team in tackles and second on the team in interceptions...made his first career start Oct. 9 against Washington and ended the 2010 season with five starts...joined ASU after one season playing junior college football...a die-hard Sun Devil fan who confesses the day he received a scholarship from ASU was "one of the best days" of his life...very rangy defender that ran a 4.5 40-yard dash and covers a tremendous amount of ground with a tall frame...added nearly 40 pounds of mass to his frame since his prep days.
2010: Appeared in all 12 games, starting five...collected a career-high 64 tackles (42 solo), including 2.5 tackles for loss, and made a pair of interceptions on the season... collected a career-high 12 tackles (six solo) against Washington Oct. 9...garnered 11 tackles (seven solo) against Stanford Nov. 13...recorded 10 tackles (nine solo) and a two-yard sack Nov. 6 vs. USC...collected five tackles (four solo) in a win over Arizona Dec. 2...grabbed his first career interception and made four solo tackles in the opening game of the season vs. Portland State Sept. 4...had his second interception of the season Nov. 26 vs. UCLA...had one pass break-up...recorded a tackle in all 12 games of the season.
2009: Played in all 12 games...recorded three solo tackles on the season...collected a solo tackle in two straight games, Sept. 5 vs. Idaho State and Sept. 19 against Louisiana-Monroe...made a solo tackle Oct. 31 vs. Cal.
2008: Played in the first five games of the season as a reserve safety and on special teams...recorded 12 tackles (eight solo), one forced fumble and one pass break-up on the year...made his Sun Devil debut and collected five tackles (four solo) in season-opening win over NAU on Aug. 30...had one tackle in victory over Stanford on Sept. 6...collected two tackles and a pass break-up against UNLV on Sept. 13...totaled three tackles (two solo) against No. 3 Georgia on Sept. 20...had one tackle and forced a fumble at California on Oct. 4...missed the rest of the season with a knee injury.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Attended Glendale (Ariz.) Community College...rated as the No. 80 overall junior college player in the nation among SuperPrep's "SuperPrep JUCO 100" list...regarded as the No. 8 junior college safety in the nation by Scout.com...totaled 70 tackles and four interceptions playing as a true freshman for the Gauchos in 2007...attended the same community college as former Pat Tillman Pac-10 Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Year Dale Robinson...committed to ASU on Jan. 6, 2008...chose ASU over Arizona and Boise State...coached by Mickey Bell at Glendale Community College.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2007 graduate of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro High School...during his three-year career at Saguaro, he totaled 89 tackles (43 solo) and 18 interceptions, caught 37 passes for 688 yards (18.6 avg.) and eight touchdowns, returned 20 kickoffs for 458 yards (22.9 avg.) and returned 45 punts for 444 yards (9.9 avg.)...had at least one interception in 12 career games and had four games with multiple interceptions...enjoyed a record-setting senior season, as he led the nation and set an Arizona state 4-A high school record with 16 interceptions for the state champion Sabercats...was named by the Arizona Cardinals and Wells Fargo as the Arizona "High School Player-of-the Week" after a sensational performance against Greenway High School on Oct. 20, 2006 in which he caught four passes for a phenomenal 211 yards and three scores, had two interceptions as well as a 34-yard punt return...added 42 tackles as a senior on defense, as well as 28 catches for 567 yards (20.3 avg.) with six touchdowns as a wide receiver...was Saguaro's top punt returner, totaling 326 yards on 32 punt returns (10.2 avg.) and 237 yards on eight kickoff returns (29.6 avg.)...had at least one interception in 10 of 14 games on the year...had three interceptions in two games and two picks in a pair of contests as well...had a season-high six total tackles in two games...notched 29 total tackles (18 solo) as a junior in 2005, in addition to two interceptions and one fumble recovery on defense, as well as nine catches for 121 yards (13.4 avg.) and two scores at wide receiver and 11 kickoff returns for 216 yards (19.6 avg.) on special teams...recorded 18 total tackles on varsity as a sophomore in 2004...coached by Mike Reardon at Saguaro High School...also earned three letters for basketball.
