Travis Buck

TitleHitting Coach
Former major leaguer and Sun Devil alumnus Travis Buck was named hitting coach for Sun Devil Baseball in the Fall of 2021 after spending several months as the program’s Director of Scouting and Player Development.

Buck previously worked with the Boise State baseball program where served as the hitting and outfield coach for the Broncos and also worked as the program’s bench coach, helping elevate the program to its first ever season as a Division I program. Outfielder Michael Hicks earned 2020 All-Mountain West Honors under Buck’s tutelage in the Bronco’s first and only season at the D1 level.

Prior to his coaching career, Buck spent six seasons in MLB with the Oakland Athletics (2007-10), Cleveland Indians (2011), and Houston Astros (2012). He played collegiately for Arizona State (2003-05). He helped lead Team USA to a gold medal in the World University Baseball Championship in 2004.

Buck was named a Freshman All-American by both Collegiate Baseball (first team) and Baseball America (second team) in 2003. He was a First Team All-Pac-10 Conference honoree in 2004 and 2005 and an All-College World Series selection in 2005 for the Sun Devils. He also garnered Pac-10 All-Academic First Team accolades in 2005. He left ASU ranked in the school's career top 10 in at bats, runs, and hits and was 15th in batting average at .362.

Buck remains the last Sun Devil to hit for the cycle (March 7, 2003),  the last Sun Devil to have six hits in one game (March 13, 2005), and the last Sun Devil to have four doubles in a game (Feb. 28, 2004). He is ninth in ASU career history in runs scored (205), eighth in career hits (272) and 17th in career batting average (.362).

Buck was initially drafted out of Richland High School in Richland, Wash., by the Seattle Mariners, but instead chose to attend Arizona State. He was then selected in the first round, 36th overall of the 2005 Major League First-Year Player Draft.

In 2006 he played in the All-Star Futures Game, and was at one point rated by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Oakland Athletics organization.

Since retiring from professional baseball, Buck had been operating TBuck Training in his hometown, training and developing youth baseball players. He has since transferred ownership to pursue a career in college baseball.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Arizona State in 2019.
