Former Sun Devil All-American David Greer enters his second season serving as the Undergraduate Student Assistant Coach. He will assume the duties as the team's first base coach while working closely with the hitters and infielders on the squad. 

Greer played enjoyed a successful three-year career at Arizona State (2014-16), playing under Coach Smith during his final two years in Tempe. He went on to be drafted in the 10th round (297th overall) by the Seattle Mariners in the 2016 MLB Draft.
 
Greer improved his game every season while a part of the Sun Devil Baseball program. After only appearing in 16 games as a freshman, Greer enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign that coincided with the arrival of head coach Tracy Smith in June of 2014. During the 2015 season, he emerged as one of the Pac-12’s most dangerous hitters. He completed his sophomore season with a .314 (58-for-185) batting average, launching a pair of home runs while driving in 28 runs. He received All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention distinction for his efforts.
 
Greer was the Sun Devils most dangerous and consistent hitter, leading the 2016 Sun Devils in eight offensive categories including batting average (.344), slugging percentage (.571), on-base percentage (.442), runs scored (49), hits (77), extra-base hits (33), total bases (128) and walks (38). The First Team Pac-12 All-Conference Selection led the league in doubles and total bases, finished 2nd in slugging percentage, third in runs scored and fifth in hits, home runs and walks. Earned Pac-12 Player of the Week (Mar. 14) honors as he tallied 11 hits, including three doubles and a home run, four RBI, and three runs scored, and pitched two scoreless innings across a six-day span.

The versatility Greer offered was extremely valuable, as he played five different defensive positions this season (1B, 2B, 3B, LF, P) during his three-year career.  Known for his leadership qualities and work ethic while playing for the Sun Devils, the transition to coaching is a natural one for Greer.

The local product out of Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale arrived on campus after leading the Wolves to the AIA Division I State Championship, defeating rival Chaparral in the title game at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Greer delivered a walk-off single in the eighth inning and got the win after pitching two scoreless innings of relief to help Desert Mountain capture their first state title is school history. The Wolves finished ranked No. 3 nationally and earned the top spot in the final state rankings. Greer was a three-time All-State selection culminating in first team All-State honors after a breakout senior season.
