Overview:

Ended his career with a 1-3 record and a 5.59 ERA in 58 pitching appearances for the Devils. He recorded 36 strikeouts in 74 innings pitched in four seasons.

Senior (2016)

  • Scattered 13 innings across 17 appearances
  • Tallied a 4.85 ERA with 11 strikeouts and nine walks
  • Did not allow an earned run in 10 of his first 11 appearances
  • Had seven straight appearances without allowing an earned run (3/5-3/26)
  • Tied his career high in strikeouts twice with two (2/27 & 3/18)
  • Pitched a career-high 2.1 innings of relief at Long Beach State, allowing just one unearned run while striking out a career high two (2/27)
  • Threw just seven pitches to record an out against Arizona, his eighth appearance in his last nine without allowing an earned run (4/12)

2015 (Junior):

  • Made 15 appearances and threw 18 innings
  • Went 0-1 and registered three saves with a 4.00 ERA
  • Recorded just one out to earn his third save vs. Tennessee Tech (4/24)
  • Tossed a season-long 3.1 innings and tied a career high with two strikeouts as he picked up the 10-out save vs. Arizona (4/12)
  • Earned his first career save at Oregon (3/20) in a scoreless ninth inning
  • Made his first appearance of the season, a three-inning outing vs New Mexico (3/18)

2014 (Sophomore):

  • Finished with a 1-1 record in 19 appearances out of the bullpen, fourth most on the team, and threw 35.2 innings
  • Registered a 4.29 ERA and a .306 opposing batting average
  • Struck out 18 and walked 10
  • Made nine appearances and threw 17 innings in conference play, third most among relievers
  • Pitched a total of 12 innings against four ranked teams, including two in the top 10
  • Struck out a career-high two batters in seven different outings, including his first career strikeout against Baylor (2/15)
  • Went a career-long four innings twice, including vs Baylor (2/15) as he scattered one hit and one run to earn his first career win
  • Gave up one run on four hits and struck out a pair in 3.1 relief innings at No. 4 Oregon State (3/21)
  • Allowed three runs on seven hits in four innings at No. 15 UCLA (3/28)
  • Gave up a pair of runs on four hits in 3.1 relief innings at No. 9 Oklahoma State
  • Took his only loss of the season vs. No. 19 Tennessee as he gave up three runs on four hits in 1.1 innings

Freshman (2013): 

  • Made seven appearances with two starts, both against Texas Tech
  • Finished with a 0-1 record
  • Tossed a season-high three innings in his first career start at Texas Tech March 19
  • Allowed five runs and two walks in his final appearance of the season May 15 against Texas Tech
  • Threw one scoreless inning in his first career appearance at Tennessee Feb. 23
  • Allowed two runs and one hit in 2/3 innings against UCLA
  • Competed for the Bend Elks of the West Coast League during the summer

Personal: Majoring in civil engineering...says he chose ASU because the combination of great baseball, tradition, engineering and location...little league coach Darryl Scott (also is pitching coach with Modesto Nuts in Rockies organization) has had the biggest influence on his baseball career...enjoys playing basketball and drawing...works at a Boys & Girls club during the summer...favorite sports team is Minnesota Twins (all Minnesota teams) and favorite athlete is Justin Verlander...would love to learn to dance if he could learn to do anything...most played song on iPod is "Tear It Up" by Sammy Adams...parents are Mark and Lynnette Melbostad...has a brother, Jack...born on August 20, 1993...full name is Eric Thomas Melbostad.
