REDSHIRT FRESHMAN (2021)
  • Sean McLain recorded a 23-game hitting streak last season - tied for the third-longest at ASU since 1998 with Andre Ethier's 2003 23-game hitting streak
  • McLain was a Collegiate Baseball News freshman All-American, an ABCA All-West Region first team selection at second base and an honorable All-Pac-12 choice
  • He was second on the team with a .322 average on the year, just outside ASU's all-time freshman top-10 in the category
  • McLain led the team in multi-hit games this year with 23. His 10 multi-RBI games were second on the team
  • McLain had 17 doubles in the regular season, good for sixth in the Pac-12 and finished with 18 on the year – tied for third in ASU freshman history
  • He led the team with 24 hits with two outs on 66 chances (.364)
  • McLain stranded just 22 runners on the base path this year, lowest among the team day-to-day starters by a significant amount
  • McLain successfully advanced runners 50.5 percent of the time (54-of-107 chances) – second on the year
  • He had eight errors on 270 chances on the year, though one of those errors came while playing in the outfield. Those 255 chances were second among Pac-12 second-basemen - despite missing several games
  • He turned 48 double plays on the season, two more than any other player in the league even including those with runs to the College World Series and 13 more than any other second baseman
FRESHMAN (2020)
  • Saw limited action as a defensive replacement and pinch runner due to injury in the shortened season but figured to be a prominent fixture of the starting lineup upon recovery
HIGH SCHOOL
  • Skilled and athletic prospect that has the versatility to play infield or outfield at the next level
  • Named a First Team selection in the Pacific Coast League by the Orange County Register following his senior year
  • Recovered from an ankle injury that cut his junior season short to play in 22 games in 2018 during his junior season, batting .388 (26-for-67) with one home run and 19 RBIs
  • Showed he can do a little bit of everything, stealing 10 bases and finishing with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage and received First Team All-PCL honors after a breakout junior season
  • Part of the Pacific Coast League Champions, Beckman High School, which went 26-4-1 and finished ranked No. 8 in California…made the Division 2 CIF Southern Section Championship
  • His brother, Matt, was selected by the D-Backs with the 25th overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft and is currently at UCLA.
  • A Top-500 overall prospect and the No. 102 shortstop prospect in the country according to Perfect Game; Perfect Game also lists him as the No. 84 overall prospect and the No. 13 shortstop prospect in the state of California; Prep Baseball Report included him in their Top-300 overall prospects, ranking him as the No. 53 outfield prospect nationally; rated as the No. 37 overall prospect and the No. 8 shortstop prospect in the state of California by PBR.
