Arizona State Head Coach Herm Edwards
On how the young players played
“When you think about going into the last game of the season without Butler and Merlin at linebacker and our two safeties were out, Gammage went in there and had to play. He is a walk-on kid and played a bunch of snaps. I’m happy for all the guys that got an opportunity. And for the most part, the defense did a nice job of not allowing them to score and they all got going in the third quarter, which was really good to see.”
On tackling in today’s game and the season overall
“We got to the quarterback, which was good to see, we harassed him a little bit which was always nice. When you look at us when we run the ball for over 200 plus yards, we are pretty consistent winning football games and we got it up to 228 today. Everyone is going to try to come in and stop us from running but we are still able to run.”

Arizona State Quarterback Jayden Daniels
On his 48-yard TD run
“It was a broken play, Rashaad ran the wrong route, I was trying to throw the ball to Ricky, but I made someone miss and from there I got into the end-zone. I was just playing football, I wasn’t going to let them tackle me, I had to go and score. We came out of halftime and I told the defense that we were going to score and we did.
On his offensive linemen making blocks
“Without them, we wouldn’t have a thousand-yard back. We went out there to impose our will, to be more physical. We punched them in the mouth and we ended up getting the cup at the end of the day.”
Arizona State Defensive Lineman Tyler Johnson
On scooping the ball on the fumble
“From start to finish my responsibility was to come off the edge to get the quarterback. I didn’t know Jack was going to come at him that fast on the right side. When I had the opportunity, I felt the quarterback roll out a little bit, and when Jack was coming at full speed, I saw the football and tried to get it. I didn’t have full control of it until I got into the endzone”
Arizona State Defensive Back Chase Lucas
On grabbing the Pat Tillman statue
“Ever since I got here and learned about Pat Tillman, what he stands for is unbelievable. Every time I pass by him, I always have to grab his hand just so I can feel like he is with me, and knowing that I’m doing it for him, and this university.”
Arizona State Jack Jones
On his pick-six
“I had leverage, the quarterback overthrew, and I took it to the house.”
On having an past success against U of A
“I will give all the credit to Coach Herm, Ray Anderson and President Crow. Without them I wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t have the opportunity to make the plays for ASU football. I’m blessed to be here.”
Arizona Head Coach Jedd Fisch
On the football program as a whole:
“Congratulations to Arizona State for getting the win. It was a good football game and they did a nice job getting the win. When it comes to our team, we never stopped competing all season long. We never once walked into a locker room that was splintered. In terms of any issues with our team, I told our guys, if there's a foxhole that I'd like to climb into it would be with our football team. Right now, they have battled and never quit under very difficult circumstances. They were thrown into games where the quarterbacks were lost. Multiple different quarterbacks were lost throughout the season. This game I think we started 11 freshmen. We had opportunities that we continue to build off of heartbreaking defeats. Everyone in that locker room, there's a lot of crying. There's a lot of sad people that want to be a part of it next year and can't because their time has run out. This offseason will not be easy. It will be hard in order to change losses to wins. It's about commitment. It's about dedication, it's about loyalty, it's about trust. If you're going to commit to wanting to be a great football team, and you're going to commit to wanting to have a championship caliber program, that's going to take every single person, and I look forward to watching our guys embrace that mentality and recognize that's not for everyone.”
Takeaways on first year as Head Coach:
“There's plenty of opportunities. We've been in a rut here in the last few years, and we're turning it around. I am excited beyond belief for where our program is headed. I think there's no question in my mind that we are going to become a very good football team over the course of time. We're building this thing from the ground level. We had to lay our foundation; we have opportunities to begin the recruiting cycle. We have opportunities now to see what our team looks like and who our players are. Last offseason we didn't know. Now we know exactly what these guys do well and be able to work off that and be able to see what they can do. I couldn't be more excited.”

Senior and offensive linemen Josh McCauley:
On how the guys fought this season:
“This year we played for each other all year long despite the curve balls thrown at us. No matter what happened, we stuck together and played our hearts out.”
On the season record:
“It's been great for me to see it although I won't be here next year. It is nice to know the program is in good hands, and moving forward, the program will be going in the right direction. These guys are playing hard and continue to get better and better every single day. I'm excited for them.”
On time with Arizona will affect the rest of his life past college:
“I mean, it's been unbelievable. I've made so many connections with great coaches and players, and I'm thankful to have those relationships. This experience has been one of the highlights of my life.”
On red zone issues and penalties:
“We practiced getting better and better in those areas. I think that it is something that comes with age. I think that that kind of stuff is done in the offseason by doing the little things right and making sure everybody's on the same page. So moving forward, I think that they will make a huge emphasis in the spring and guys will turn the corner on the execution aspects.”
Senior Linebacker Anthony Pandy :
On playing for Don Brown this season:
“He taught me a lot, probably the most I've ever learned from a coach. I feel like he held me to a higher standard, and I love and appreciate him for that.”
On the team's mindset during the game:
“We tried hard and practiced hard all week. Unfortunately, sometimes things happen. We didn't execute well and will have to continue pushing forward.”
On the future of the program:
“I think the program's going to be good. We had some changes in the defense. However, we jumped like 50 spots. So I believe we will continue to improve.”
