Hey Sun Devil golf fans, first of all I want to thank all of you that have reached out to me and the members of our team.
Certainly, a disappointing ending, the fact that so many of you are disappointed with us means a lot to us, that you care that you were looking forward to the end of the season. I think you know we have great team this year. We finished the season ranked about 6 or 5, 6, 7 -- maybe 3 or 4 in certain polls but you know last year this time we were ranked 2 but we're better than we were last year.
This is a really good team; we're hosting at home had three veteran seniors, two freshmen in the top- ten freshman of the country. Cam was playing great; Mason was playing great; we were really ready to do some awesome things.
I think even internally the team was so strong culturally, working hard totally focused on the end of the year and doing everything each day to get there, so it was real hard pill for us to swallow.
We realized that hitting a golf ball around in the big picture isn't the biggest deal in the world but it's still very devastating for all of us who each day for many years have given everything we have to be ready for this time. So, it's been a bit disorienting for players to not know when the next tournament is, to not know what they're working for but they're doing well most of them have gone home now and will be ready to go when the time comes to play again.
I want to thank so many people who've made this season special, specifically around the NCAA championships. So much work has gone into hosting this year at Grayhawk and unfortunately that won't happen. We do hope it will still happen three years subsequently but Greg and Dell and Joe and Ernie and Grayhawk and all your team have been just amazing.
JD, Kurt, Doug and everybody from ASU staff, so much work has gone into that. City of Scottsdale Thunderbirds all the time and energy you guys have put into this and there's so many people in in any year that we would thank, but this was a special year because so much was going into hosting national championship which we will look forward hosting next year. Our student athletes get benefits of so much effort from like Doug Tammaro and his media team Shay Jewett and her academics, our trainers and our equipment and just you know there's just a lot of people and I want to thank you I want to thank our donors who make it all possible. Our alums who stay engaged and active all the many courses that support us and allow us to play and practice at your facility, the guys that maintain our facilities and really our staff too; Armen and Howard and Jesse give so much time and energy to make it awesome for our guys so really a big thanks for the season.
We have three seniors that unfortunately it's come to a quicker end and we don't know for sure if they're going to get a year back if they do maybe one only will actually come back, potentially two but probably just one. So that remains to be seen but these three are like sons to me Kevin Yu, Alex del Rey, and Blake Wagoner. When I got here almost four years ago now, they were the first calls I made. They were the freshman coming in and they've just done such an amazing job the last four years. Three years in a row they all were on that regional steam qualified for Nationals and took us the Nationals and this year they knew that it was their team they were doing an awesome job as leaders and they knew we were better than ever and it's hard for them to not have a chance to do this but you Kevin leaves as a first team All-American, one of the top rated amateur golfers in the world. Alex was an awesome spirit of the team so much energy in life and made it fun and became just a deep friend to just about everybody in the team. He won four tournaments and had a lot of great highs, was a Palmer Cup player and all PAC 12 player and Blake, “Mr. Steady.” I love incremental constant progress in development and that’s what Blake has been. He's just gotten better and better every day every year through his hard work through his passion and energy. All three of them together are so different but they gave so much to this program. They will forever be a big part of Sun Devil golf. They leave it better than they found it and we just personally I just can't thank them enough, I’m going to miss them so much and I know they'll stay very closely connected with the program. We have a lot to look forward to, like I said we have a couple of stud freshman this year; Cam is playing awesome; Mason, James had a great year. Recruiting is going very well so when you look at the future it's very bright for Sun Devil golf. It didn't turn out how we hope this year, but great days are ahead. So thank you for following us. Thanks for being a part of what we do.
Thank you for supporting us in the many ways that you do and Go Devils!
