Krawczyk Prepares For Doubles After Falling In Singles

By Jake Hernandez, SDA Media Relations

WACO, Texas – Juniors Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad are set to compete in the doubles portion of NCAA Division I Individual Championships, held May 20-25 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

After a 75-minute rain delay, the first round of singles got underway as Krawczyk got off to a great start by taking the first set, 6-3. It would be a hard fought match as she eventually falls short to No. 10 Julia Jones from Ole Miss defeated her, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

“It was a tough day for Desirae. She got off to a great start and then started to make too many unforced errors,” said ASU head coach Sheila McInerney. “She had control of the match and let it get away. Credit to her opponent for making Desirae play a lot of hard balls. Des needs to put this behind her and get ready for doubles play tomorrow.”

After falling in the first round of singles, Krawczyk will prepare for the doubles portion with teammate Stephanie Vlad. As a pair, No. 26 Krawczyk and Vlad had a 15-4 record on the season, earning them one of the 32 spots available at the Championships. In the first round of 32, the Sun Devils will take on No. 13 doubles pair, Eva Paalma and Rachel Pierson from Texas A&M on Thursday, May 21 at 5 p.m. CDT/3 p.m. MST.

Winners from doubles will advance to play tomorrow in the second round. Follow @NCAATennis2015 on twitter for final scores.
