SUN DEVIL NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP NOTE: Softball coach Clint Myers joined a great group of Sun Devil coaches when he won his second national title (also in 2008). He joined Linda Vollstedt (women's golf), Greg Kraft (track and field) and baseball mentors Bobby Winkles and Jim Brock as ASU coaches with multiple NCAA titles. Vollstedt led the women;s golf team to six NCAA titles (1998, 1997, 1995, 1994, 1993 and 1990), while Kraft's four rings came in 2008 (indoor teams won both the men's and women's) and 2007 (women both indoor and outdoor). Winkles won baseball titles in 1969, 1967 and 1965 while Brock earned titles in 1981 and 1977.

BASEBALL (TIM ESMAY/SECOND SEASON/HIRED DECEMBER 3, 2009)
Arizona State finished the 2011 season with a 43-18 record, a 17-10 Pac-10 Conference record and earned an At Large berth in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Super Regionals...ASU hosted the Tempe Regional, the fifth straight year on the field that Packard Stadium has played host to a Regional. The Sun Devils swept the Tempe Regional, beating New Mexico, Charlotte and Arkansas...Arizona State traveled to Austin, Texas to face the Texas Longhorns in the Austin Super Regionals, which UT won in three games...Arizona State finished the season ranked as high as ninth (Baseball America and the NCBWA)...2011 marked the 49th straight season that Arizona State has topped the 30-win mark on the field and the 32nd time with over 40 wins on the field...ASU again faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation, playing 32 games against ranked teams. Nine teams that ASU faced advanced to the NCAA Tournament, with four of them advancing to Super Regionals. The Devils faced two teams (California and Texas) that advanced to the College World Series...Head Coach Tim Esmay recorded the second highest winning percentage (.810) among ASU head coaches over their first 100 games...Joey DeMichele won the Pac-10 batting title with a .368 average, the second straight year and fourth time in the last five years a Sun Devil has won the batting crown. DeMichele also led the conference with his .663 slugging percentage...Zack MacPhee won the Pac-10 stolen base title, swiping 27. It is the third straight year a Sun Devil led the Pac-10 in steals...The Sun Devils led the Pac-10 in extra base hits (201), doubles (136), triples (28) and home runs (37)...Deven Marrero was named the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year, the second Sun Devil to ever win the award (Eric Sogard, 2007)...2011 marked the sixth straight year Arizona State had at least one Pac-10 individual award winner...Arizona State placed five players on the All-Pac-10 First Team: Joey DeMichele, Deven Marrero, Johnny Ruettiger, Austin Barnes and Riccio Torrez...Eight Devils earned All-Pac-10 Honorable Mention: Alex Blackford, Kramer Champlin, Mitchell Lambson, Zack MacPhee, Matt Newman, Brady Rodgers, Trevor Williams and Zach Wilson...DeMichele was named a First Team All-American by the ABCA and a Third Team All-American by Baseball America...DeMichele was also a First Team ABCA All-West Region selection, while Riccio Torrez, Johnny Ruettiger and Deven Marrero were Second Team selections...Trevor Williams was named a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball...Andy Workman was named a Second Team Academic All-American and earned First Team Academic All-Pac-10 honors. Joey DeMichele joined Workman on the Academic All-Pac-10 First Team, while Riccio Torrez and Deven Marrero earned Second Team honors. Matt Newman and Xorge Carrillo were honorable mentions...Workman and DeMichele were also First Team Academic All-District VIII picks, while Marrero was a Second Team choice...Arizona State had five student-athletes on their roster who earned their degrees during the 2010-11 school year: Matt Newman, Andy Workman, Xorge Carrillo, Josh Moody and Daniel Milner...Joey DeMichele was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tempe Regional...Mitchell Lambson finished his Arizona State career with 102 appearances, tied for second most in school history. He is one of only three pitchers to have thrown in over 100 games as a Sun Devil...Lambson also won the second most games (24) in school history by a pitcher who pitched primarily out of the bullpen...With his 24 victories and 17 saves, Lambson became only the third Sun Devil with 20+ wins and 10+ saves...Zack MacPhee ended his ASU career with 130 walks, the seventh highest total in school history...MacPhee also became only the ninth player in ASU history to steal 20 or more bases in back-to-back seasons...Matt Newman ended his career with 123 walks, ninth most in school history...Brady Rodgers and Deven Marrero were each selected to play for Team USA's Collegiate National Team over the summer...11 Sun Devils were selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

MEN'S BASKETBALL (HERB SENDEK/FIFTH SEASON)
Finished 12-19 and 4-14 in the Pac-10...senior trio of Ty Abbott, Rihards Kuksiks and Jamelle McMillan finished careers with 80-53 (.601) mark, the most wins by an four-year players in school history...prior to their arrival, ASU won 37 games in the previous four seasons...sophomore Trent Lockett earned second-team All-Pac-10 honors as he averaged 13.4 points per game after averaging 6.7 in his freshman season, the biggest scoring jump by a Sun Devil from the first year to the second since Jeremy Veal in 1995-96 averaged 18.9 points, up 11.5 from his freshman season...due to injuries and illness, ASU used 11 starting lineups, 11 players earned a start and freshman Kyle Cain was only Sun Devil to start in all 31 games. The 11 starting lineups was the most since the 2003-04 team started 13...team made 240 three-pointers and attempted 684, both fifth-most in ASU history...Ty Abbott earned Pac-10 Player of the Week award for third time in his career for games on March 3 and March 5...swept Oregon in the regular season for the third straight year and for the 12th time in 33 Pac-10 seasons...Ty Abbott put his name on ASU career charts for points (1,330/14th), starts (119/second), games (130/second), three-pointers made (273/third), three-pointers attempted (757/third), steals (133/tenth) and minutes (4,019/second)...Rihards Kuksiks finished career with 280 career three-pointers made, second on the ASU career list and seventh on the Pac-10 list, while 696 attempts is ninth on ASU Pac-10 career chart and fourth in ASU history...Kuksiks finished career with 1,175 points, 23rd on ASU career chart.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (COACH CHARLI TURNER THORNE/15th SEASON/HIRED JULY 1, 1996)
Finished 21-11 and 11-7 in the Pac-10 (third) and made its 12th consecutive postseason appearance (eight NCAAs and four WNITs) after qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in seven seasons...began their current postseason streak with their first WNIT appearance in 2000...third-place finish in the Pac-10 marked the ninth time in 11 seasons that ASU has finished among the top three in the Pac-10...made it to the second round of the Pac-10 Tournament (defeated Oregon State in first round) where it lost to California (48-43)...defeated by Temple 63-45 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament...posted a winning record in road games (7-5) for the fifth time in six seasons and was 4-0 in games decided by three points or less...finished No. 2 in the Pac-10 in free throw percentage (.735)...biggest win of the season came on Dec. 21 when it upset No. 16/18 DePaul 79-66 in Tempe. Senior guard Dymond Simon earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors after dishing out a career-best seven assists and scoring 18 of her career-high-tying 24 points in the second half...season-best seven-game winning streak was part of a 10-2 start to open season...held the opposition to 56 points or less 15 times...final non-conference game vs. Marist (originally scheduled for Dec. 28) was cancelled due to Marist not being able to travel to Tempe due to storms back East...senior guard Dymond Simon concluded her career 11th on ASU's all-time list in scoring (1,216 points), ninth in three-point field goals (104) and seventh in career free throw percentage (.801, 254-317) while senior forward Becca Tobin ended her career second on ASU's all-time list in career blocks with 100...following the season head coach Charli Turner Thorne announced on May 2 that she was taking an unpaid leave of absence for the 2011-12 season (nine-month leave beginning on July 1, 2011) and that associate head coach Joseph Anders would serve as interim head coach for the 2011-12 season.

Placed fifth at the Pac-10 Championships and at the NCAA West Region Championships...one of the first teams out of making the NCAA Championships field...won the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson after taking fourth at the George Kyte Invitational to open the year...placed 11th (21 teams) at the Notre Dame Invitational and 19th (36 teams) at the NCAA Pre-National Meet...Ben Engelhardt was the top finisher for the Sun Devils in six of the seven races he ran...individually qualified for the NCAA Championships by placing 13th at the NCAA West Region Championships...placed 51st at the national meet, improving on his personal-best finish at the meet by over 100 places...earned All-West Region honors with his finish after earning All-Pac-10 Second Team accolades for his 13th-place finish at the Conference meet...season-best fifth-place showing came at the Dave Murray meet...Darius Terry, who placed in the Top 10 at the Dave Murray meet, finished 26th at the regional race and missed all-region accolades by one place .

Finished 13th in the NCAA West Region and seventh in Pac-10 Championships...took second place as a team at the George Kyte Invitational and Dave Murray Invitational, the first two meets of the season...Lindsay Prescott led the way for the team as its top individual finisher in all six races she ran...Catherine Loden was the team's top runner in the ASU Invitational...Prescott placed ninth at the Pac-10 Championships to earn All-Pac-10 Second Team honors and was 37th at the NCAA West Region...finished in the Top 10 on three occasions, including second at the Dave Murray Invitational, sixth at the George Kyte Invitational and ninth at the Pac-10 meet...team ran in two large meets and placed well, including a 10th-place finish (29 teams) at the Roy Griak Invitational and 11th (40 teams) at the NCAA Pre-National Meet.

FOOTBALL (DENNIS ERICKSON/FOURTH SEASON/HIRED DECEMBER 11, 2006)
Finished 6-6 overall, 4-5 in the Pac-10, tied for fifth in the conference...the Sun Devils returned three kickoffs for touchdowns during the season, breaking the previous school record that was set in 1968 and 1996. Omar Bolden, LeQuan Lewis and Jamal Miles each had a touchdown, including a 100-yarder by Lewis at USC that tied the school and NCAA record...Cameron Marshall collected two 100-yard games on the ground (Portland State and UCLA), while Deantre Lewis has three (at Wisconsin, Oregon, at Oregon State). The three by Lewis were in consecutive weeks, making him the first Sun Devil since 2003 to have three straight 100-yard games...Lewis also collected two 100-yard receiving games, the first Sun Devil since George Montgomery in 1993 to run for 100-yards and have 100-yards receiving in the same season...Arizona State blocked six kicks (three punts and three PATs), tying a school record set in 1992. James Brooks blocked two PATs at Arizona, including one that won the game 30-29 in overtime...Vontaze Burfict led the team with 90 tackles, including 8.5 for loss...Burfict was named Second Team All-Pac-10...Omar Bolden led the team with his three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown at USC...Bolden earned First Team All-Pac-10 honors at defensive back and Second Team All-Pac-10 honors at kick returner...Junior Onyeali led the team with his 11.5 tackles for loss and his 6.5 sacks and was named the Pac-10 Defensive Freshman of the Year, the second straight year a Sun Devil has won the award...eight Sun Devils earned Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors: Garth Gerhart (OL), Lawrence Guy (DL), Trevor Hankins (P), Jamaar Jarrett (DL), Brandon Magee (LB), Cameron Marshall (RB), Jamal Miles (PR), Kerry Taylor (WR)...Taylor, a senior, led the team with his 54 catches for 699 yards...junior Mike Willie led the team with his six touchdown catches...sophomore Cameron Marshall was the team leader with 150 carries for 737 yards and nine touchdowns...10 Sun Devils earned All-Pac-10 honors from Phil Steele, led by Vontaze Burfict, who was a First Team choice...

Finished 18th at the NCAA Championships held in Stillwater, Okla....Coach Randy Lein leaves ASU after 19 seasons with 44 tournament wins, eight Pac-10 titles and a national championship in 1996...also coached NCAA individual champions in Alejandro Canizares (2003) and Todd Demsey (1993)...senior Scott Pinckney, a 2008-09 honorable mention All-American and first-team All-Pac-10 pick in 2010-11, finished his career with 12 top-10 finishes in 40 events with 19 rounds in the 60s. He earned a trip to the 2011 U.S. Open...ASU made its 49th appearance in the NCAA Championships, behind only Oklahoma State (65), Texas (57) and USC (52)...ASU has qualified for NCAAs in 27 of past 28 seasons and in the past nine seasons, tied for third-best mark in nation in that time...Pinckney led team with 71.89 stroke average, five top-10 finishes and two top-five finishes...seniors Thomas Buran, James Byrne, Jesper Kennegard and Oscar Zetterwall all finished up Sun Devil career, while junior Philip Francis turned pro...new men's golf head coach Tim Mickelson was hired on July 10, 2011.

GYMNASTICS (JOHN SPINI/31st SEASON)
The Sun Devils went 4-5 overall this season with a 2-3 Pac-10 record. Coach John Spini now owns a 333-169-2 overall record. Highlights from the 2011 season include a win over No. 13 Washington with a season-high score of 195.750. Two other top team scores include a 194.800 and 194.500. Two Gym Devils qualified as individuals for Regionals. Beate Jones qualified as an all-around competitor and Madison Snowden qualified as a floor specialist. Jones competed in the all-around in all but three meets this season. She hit a season-high of 9.900 on vault and an all-around high of 39.225. Madison Snowden posted a score of 9.925 twice on floor as well as hitting 9.900 two other times. The team's top returnee from 2010, Mary Atkinson was out for the second half of the season with a knee injury. Eight Gym Devils earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors, the most girls out of every gymnastics team in the Pac-10.

Finished 9-8-3 and 3-5-1 (t-7th) in the Pac-10 under Kevin Boyd, who led the Sun Devils to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season, only the second time in school history that the program has made back-to-back NCAA appearances...Sun Devils lost in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at UC Irvine 2-1...ASU was ranked as high as No. 19 both in the NSCAA and Soccer America polls after beginning the season 6-0-1...0-0-3 in overtime in 2010...scored nine goals in back-to-back victories over Tennessee (4-2) and Nebraska (5-0), ASU's most combined goals in back-to-back games since the first two games of the 2003 season in wins at Hawaii (4-0) and vs. Bowling Green (5-1)...Karin Volpe earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors after tying the school record with a career-best three goals in the win against Nebraska (Sept. 12)...defeated Arizona 2-1 (Oct. 15) in front of a school record crowd of 1,513...defeated No. 17 USC 3-0 at home (Nov. 5)...three players earned All-Pac-10 honors senior M Alexandra Elston (second team), sophomore M Talyor McCarter (second team) and freshman Devin Marshall (All-Freshman and honorable mention)...had a conference-high 13 players named to the Pac-10's All-Academic Team, including four first-team members, which tied for most in the Pac-10. ASU's 13 first-team members over the last four years are the most in the Pac-10 during that span...Volpe led the Sun Devils in both points (19) and goals (9) for the third time in four years. She concluded her career fourth on the school's all-time list in career goals (28), sixth in points (65) and second in game winning goals (13)...Elston started in all 80 of ASU's games the last four years and concluded her career ninth on the school's all-time list in both career points (48) and goals (18) and fifth in career game winning goals (8)...Elston would go on to be named an NSCAA Women's College Scholar Third-Team All-American in addition to being awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.

SOFTBALL (CLINT MYERS/SIXTH SEASON/HIRED JUNE 25, 2005)
The Sun Devils went 60-6 overall and 17-4 in the Pac-10 during the 2011 season, notching a Pac-10 Championship and its second NCAA title in four years... Arizona State joined an elite class of UCLA, Arizona and Texas A&M as the only teams to win multiple NCAA titles after rolling through the postseason with a perfect 10-0 record (ASU also went 10-0 in 2008 when it earned its first NCAA Championship)... Ace Dallas Escobedo (37-3) became the first freshman pitcher to win the title-clinching game since UCLA's Heather Compton did so in 1990... To advance to Oklahoma City, ASU eliminated No. 17 Texas A&M 3-2 and 3-4 in the Super Regionals following Regional wins over North Dakota State, Long Beach State and San Diego State... For the first time in program history ASU received a No. 1 seed for the postseason to go along with its already storied 2011 campaign... During the regular season the Sun Devils saw perhaps one of the greatest come-from-behind wins with a 13-10 victory over rival No. 7 Arizona on April 23... ASU went on to win the series, tallying its fourth win in Tucson in over 20 years with the sweep... Annie Lockwood, Kaylyn Castillo, Katelyn Boyd and Dallas Escobedo were selected as invitees to the Team USA Softball tryouts following the conclusion of a historic year - Escobedo was later named to the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team... Off the field, the Sun Devils excelled in the classroom with an Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 997 (out of 1,000) that ranked first in the Pac-10.

Finished 15-7 overall and 7-3 in the Pac-10 (4th)...finished 18th in the final Campbell/ITA College Tennis Rankings...Sun Devils were selected for their 24th-straight NCAA appearance, the longest streak in Arizona State history...ASU swept USC on the season with two upset victories over the Trojans...senior Kelcy McKenna defeated then top-ranked Maria Sanchez of USC...McKenna won both the Cal/Nike Invitational and the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in the fall of 2010...McKenna and freshman Jacqueline Cako earned All-Pac-10 honors with McKenna earning her second first-team accolade and Cako making second-team honors...Cako also earned All-American distinction after being named a top-16 seed in the NCAA singles tournament...Cako became the first freshman women's tennis player at ASU to earn All-American honors since Allison Bradshaw accomplished the feat in 1999...for the sixth-consecutive year, the ASU women's tennis team was recognized by the NCAA for a perfect 1,000 APR score...both McKenna and sophomore Hannah James earned Pac-10 Tennis Player of the Week honors during the 2011 season...five Sun Devils were named to the Pac-10 All-Academic team...three were named ITA Scholar Athletes with the team earning its fourth-straight ITA Division I All-Academic team honor with a cumulative team GPA of 3.5.

INDOOR: Team did not score at the NCAA Championships and placed fifth at the MPSF Indoor Championships with 72.5 points scored...at the national meet, Jordan Clarke missed scoring the shot put by one place as he earned All-America honors for a ninth-place finish at 18.70m (61-04.25), the sixth-best toss in school history...the team was led at the MPSF meet by a pair of runner-up finishes from Daniel Auberry in the 60m dash (6.84) and Clarke in the shot put (17.80m/58-04.75) while the relay of Kelsey Ceasar, John Kline, Ryan Healy and William Henry combined to finish third in the 4x400m relay (3:11.25)...16 marks recorded during the season ranked among the Top 10 all-time in school history, including Ben Engelhardt's time of 13:50.42 in the 5,000m run, which stands as a school record...his time, just the second time of under-14 minutes by a Sun Devil, beat the previous best of 13:58.54 by Ryan Warrenburg in 2006...Jamie Sandys added his name to two lists, including the second spot on the heptathlon with his score of 5,029 points, making him just the second ASU athlete to break the 5,000-point barrier in the event...Clarke moved up to No. 5 in the weight throw (18.76m/61-06.75) to go along with his No. 6 mark in the shot put...Bryan McBride cleared 2.14m (7-00.25) in the high jump to become the seventh Sun Devil to clear 7-feet indoors.

OUTDOOR: Team finished tied for 25th at the NCAA Championships with 10 points scored and was third in the Pac-10 Championships with 99 points scored, tying USC and UCLA with the same point total...Jordan Clarke won his first national title with a very consistent series of throws to take the crown with a personal-best toss of 19.75m (64-09.75).. his toss, which ranks him fifth all-time in school history, gave ASU three national titles in a row in the men's outdoor shot put after Ryan Whiting won in 2009 and 2010...Darius Terry also earned All-America honors in the 1,500m run as he reached the final race and placed 10th overall in 3:46.52...Terry's national honor was the first of his career the first by any Sun Devil man in the event in program history...four men advanced to the national meet from the Preliminary Round in Oregon, including two on the track and two in the field...Clarke was fifth in the shot put while Chris Benard was 10th in the triple jump...on the track, Ryan Milus was fifth overall in the 100m dash while Terry was seventh in the 1,500m...Clarke won his first major title of the year and his collegiate career by throwing 19.05m (62-06.00) to capture the shot put...Clarke was the only champion in the meet for ASU as he led the team in scoring 20 points with 10 in the shot put (first place), eight in the discus (second at 56.51m/185-05) and two in the hammer (seventh at 60.40m/198-02)...the team also posted a pair of runner-up finishes as Milus ran 10.34 to take second in the 100m dash while he and teammates Daniel Auberry, Allante Battle and Kelsey Ceasar were second in the 4x100m relay (39.51)...newcomers scored well in the meet as well with first-time competitors helping secure 51 points, including Benard, who was fourth in both the long jump and triple jump to earn 10 points total...Milus was the lone Sun Devil man to earn a weekly honor from the Conference as he was named the Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Week (April 25) after running 10.07 in the 100m dash at the Sun Devil Open...11 marks turned in ranked among the Top 10 all-time in ASU history, including Milus in the 100m dash at 10.23 (wind legal)...he also ran 10.07 (+3.9 wind), which would have been a school record (10.10 is the mark), but wind readings over 2.0 negate records...Clarke moved up in all three weight events, including No. 5 in the shot put (19.75m/64-09.75), No. 5 in the hammer (62.00m/203-05) and No. 10 in the discus (56.66m/185-11)...three men all ran under 30 minutes in the 10,000m event, including No. 5 Ben Engelhardt (29:33.64), No. 7 Daniel Lovell (29:44.47) and No. 8 Doug Smith (29:56.30), the only time ASU has had more than one man on the team break 30 minutes in the same season.

INDOOR: Team finished tied for 40th at the NCAA Indoor Championships with four points scored and fourth place at the MPSF Indoor Championships with 92 points scored...at the NCAA meet, Jasmine Chaney earned a pair of All-America honors as she was ninth in the 200m dash (23.20) and then joined the team of Sarah Geren, Keia Pinnick and Kayla Sanchez to finish 12th in the 4x400m relay (3:35.74)...Anna Jelmini scored the lone points for the team by finishing fifth overall in her first national meet, hitting a toss of 17.08m (56-00.50) in the shot put to record the third-best mark in school history...Christabel Nettey also competed in the long jump and joined Chaney and the 4x400m relay as the only Sun Devils that automatically qualified for the national meet...in the conference competition, Jasmine Chaney was the lone champion for the Sun Devils as she won the 400m dash in 53.68...Jelmini (16.40m/53-09.75) and the 4x400m relay of Geren, Sanchez, Alycia Herring and Pinnick (3:38.05) finished third to add six more points each to the team total...overall, 23 marks recorded during the season rank among the Top 10 all-time in school history...Chaney moved into the Top 3 in four events during her senior season, including No. 2 in the 200m dash (23.16) and No. 3 in the 400m dash (53.37), 60m hurdles (8.22) and with the 4x400m relay of Geren, Pinnick and Sanchez (3:33.72)...Nettey also moved into the Top 4 in a pair of jumping events, including No. 4 in the long jump (6.44m/21-02.50) and second in the triple jump (12.13m/39-09.75) in just her second triple jump competition ever...two women joined the ranks of Sun Devils that have cleared 4-meters in the pole vault as freshman Shayla Simpson moved up to No. 2 with her mark of 4.20m (13-09.50) while Cara Carpenter moved to No. 4 with her best of 4.01m (13-01.75).

OUTDOOR: Team finished 19th at the NCAA Championships with 15 points scored...placed third as a team in the Pac-10 Championships with 121 points scored...Jasmine Chaney led the way for the team as she ran a life-time best of 56.03 in a downpour of rain during the 400m hurdles to finish fourth overall and score five teams points for her All-American finish...team's remaining points came in the field events where Anna Jelmini finished second in the discus (57.97m/190-2) for eight points and Christabel Nettey was seventh in the long jump (6.47m/21-02.75) for two points...Samantha Henderson just missed scoring the heptathlon at the national meet as she scored 5,347 points to finish ninth overall while earning All-America honors...at the Preliminary Round competition in Oregon, five women qualified in individual events for the national meet, including Chaney in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles, Jelmini in the shot put and discus, Cj Navarro in the hammer, Nettey in the long jump and Kayla Sanchez in the 400m hurdles...both relays also advanced from the preliminary round to the national final as well... Navarro made the national final field with a big personal-best toss, hitting 58.97m (193-5) to finish eighth in the West to advance...four Pac-10 crowns were won in Tucson by individual Sun Devils, including Chaney in the 400m dash (52.23), Jelmini in the discus (60.33m/197-11), Nettey in the long jump (6.54m/21-05.50) and Henderson in the heptathlon (5,470 points)...Chaney, who ran the fifth-best time in school history in the 400m dash, swept the conference titles in the quarter after winning the indoor crown at the MPSF Championships...Chaney was very busy at the Pac-10 meet as she scored 24.5 points, the most of any athlete in the meet, which earned her the Pac-10 Female Athlete of the Meet award...Chaney added finishes of third in the 100m hurdles (13.15), fourth in the 400m hurdles (57.62), second on the 4x100m relay with Alycia Herring, Kayla Sanchez and Dominique Maloy (44.28) and fourth on the 4x400m relay with Maloy, Sanchez and Keia Pinnick (3:35.35)...other high point scorers for the team included Henderson, who scored 17 (first in the heptathlon, fourth in the high jump and seventh in the long jump), and Jelmini, who added 15 (first in the discus and fourth in the shot put)...the Pac-10 honored a pair of individuals during the season for their success, including Pac-10 Female Athlete of the Week Chaney (April 18) and Pac-10 Female Field Athlete of the Week Henderson (May 9)...Chaney was honored after she won the 400m hurdles at the Mt. SAC Relays, took third in the 100m hurdles and helped the 4x100m relay to a victory...Henderson earned her honor after winning the heptathlon at the Pac-10 Multi Championships...22 marks were recorded during the season that ranked in the Top 10 all-time in school history, led by the 55.22 Chaney ran at the USA Championships in the 400m hurdles to break a 16 year-old record (55.44, Lade Akinremi, 1995) and earn a spot on Team USA for the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, Korea...Chaney also had a hand three other marks on the Top 10 list, including No. 4 in the 100m hurdles (13.16), No. 5 in the 400m dash (52.23) and with the No. 7 4x100m relay (44.28)...Nettey added her name to three charts, including No. 2 in the long jump (6.49m/21-03.50), No. 3 in the triple jump (12.62m/41-01.00) and No. 7 in the heptathlon (5,068 points), her first attempt at the combined-events...Henderson cleared 1.80m (5-10.75) at the Pac-10 Championships in the high jump, making her only the sixth woman to clear 1.80m in school history...Shaylah Simpson cleared 4.03m (13-02.25) to become the fourth woman over 4-meters in ASU history in the pole vault...Jelmini added her name to all three weight lists, including No. 3 in the discus (60.49m/198-05), No. 3 in the shot put (17.24m/58-05.25) and No. 9 in the hammer (54.52m/178-10).

VOLLEYBALL (JASON WATSON/THIRD SEASON)
Finished 2010 season with a 13-18 record and tied for sixth in the Pac-10 with a 7-11 record...had a historic season as they toppled three top-10 programs for the first time in program history with wins over No. 2 Cal, No. 5 USC and No. 10 UCLA in a season which saw both Cal and USC make the Final Four as well as Cal taking the NCAA runner-up title...Sarah Reaves closed out her career with 1,796 career kills, placing her in the top-40 of Pac-10 history and second best all-time in ASU program history...she also compiled 1,181 career digs as well, making her tenth in ASU history in digs...her senior colleague, Sarah Johnson also made a mark in the record books as she finished her career with 1,439 digs to make her fourth all-time in ASU history...as a team the Sun Devils posted a 14.55 average of digs per set, good for fourth in the Pac-10...individually, Sarah Reaves ranked sixth in the Pac-10 in kills per set with a 3.94 average and eighth in points per set with a 4.37 average...Cat Highmark collected seventh in the conference in assists per set with a 10.60 average...Sonja Markanovich finished eighth in blocks per set with a 1.09 average...Sarah Johnson finished out the season in fourth for digs per set with a 4.33 averag ...in match highs, Sarah Johnson collected 22 digs in a three-set match against UC Riverside, fourth highest in the Pac-10 in the season, as well as collecting 27 against Dayton to tie for fourth-highest in four-set matches as wel ...Cat Highmark's four aces against VCU in August placed her tied for fourth in service aces in a five-set match...Sonja Markanovich patrolled the net as she collected 10 blocks against Pacific and Oregon State, tied for second in season-highs in a single match in the Pac-10 and her teammate Erica Wilson collected nine against Michigan to tie for third...as a team against Oregon on November 6, the Sun Devils hit .310 for an attack percentage, placing them fourth in five-set match highs for the Pac-10...the team's 72 kills against VCU on August 29 also placed them at fifth in single-match highs for the conference ...ASU's 85 digs as a team on October 16 against UCLA also placed them fifth in match-highs for the conference and ranked as second highest in a four-set match...Sun Devils also posted 17.0 blocks as a team against Pacific on September 18, which tied them for third in match highs in the Pac-10...Sarah Reaves led the team in double-doubles on the year with 15 with teammate Cat Highmark collecting 14 and Ashley Kastl collecting two...setter Cat Highmark carried on the academic tradition of the program as she collected a CoSIDA ESPN the Magazine All-Academic Third Team honor as well as being named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team, which extends ASU streak to eight years of having a First-Team member...joining her on the Pac-10 All-Academic team with honorable mentions were Sarah Johnson, Sonja Markanovich, Malia Marquardt and Sarah Reaves to bring ASU's Pac-10 academic honors total up to 50 all-time.

WATER POLO (COACH TODD CLAPPER/SIXTH SEASON/HIRED AUGUST 3, 2005)
Finished the season with a 12-14 overall record (0-7 MPSF) and placed seventh in the MPSF Championships, the team's best finish in the conference tournament since the 2006 squad finished sixth overall...ended the year ranked No. 8 in the final national rankings after opening the season ranked No. 9 and remaining in the Top 10 for 12 of the 16 weeks the rankings were released...team's final ranking is the second-best in program history behind the No. 6 ranking the 2006 squad earned...posted a pair of upset victories over San Diego State, including No. 9 ASU's 10-9 decision over No. 7 SDSU at the UC Irvine Invitational and then No. 11 ASU's 11-9 win over the No. 9 Aztecs in the seventh-place game at the MPSF Championships...those wins were the 21st and 22nd times ASU has upset a Top 10 team...scored 15 or more goals in six games, including a 21-5 defeat of Fresno Pacific and an 18-4 win over Redlands...the 21 goals scored against FPU is the second-most in a single game in program history behind the 25 scored in 2009 against Cal Lutheran while the 16-point margin ranks as the seventh-best in program history...individually, Sarah Harris and Mariam Salloum both received All-MPSF Honorable Mention honors with Harris earning the accolade for the second year in a row while Salloum earned her first honor from the league...Lynlee Smith tied a pair of single-game records during the season...first, she tallied nine points (five goals-four assists) at home against Cal Baptist (March 5) to tie her own record for points in a game (scored seven goals and two assists against Cal Lutheran in 2009)...then, on the road at No. 20 UC San Diego (April 3), she recorded five assists in the win to tie Ashley Orzalli (2002) and Bonnie Miles (2009) for the most helpers in a single game...Smith etched her name on a pair of single-season Top 10 lists and three career charts this year... her 53 assists are the most in single season (ahead of Ashley Bower's 46 in 2007) while her 92 points (39 goals-53 assists) ranks as the second-most behind Addison McGrath's 123 in 2008...on the career charts, Smith ended her time in Tempe ranked second in all-time goals with 155, third in assists with 95 and second in points with 250...also moving up on the career lists were Salloum (ninth in goals with 87, fifth in assists with 75, sixth in points with 162 and 10th in steals with 80) and Nikki Unbehaun (10th in goals with 82, 10th in assists with 44 and 10th in points with 126)...two Sun Devils on the 2011 roster also competed in the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, as both Harris and Kelsey White represented South Africa...two others with ties to the program also were involved in the FINA event, including former student-athlete Rowie Webster, who played for Australia, incoming student-athlete Rita Keszthelyi, who played for Hungary.

WRESTLING (COACH SHAWN CHARLES/SECOND SEASON/HIRED MAY 8, 2009)
Team posted a 5-13 overall record and went 1-4 in duals against Pac-10 duals...finished sixth nationally with 52.5 points and took third in the Pac-10 Championships with 117 points...qualified six to the NCAA Championships where Anthony Robles (125) and Bubba Jenkins (157) each won national titles...joined heavyweight Levi Cooper as All-Americans as each finished in the Top 8 of their respective weight classes...four individuals reached the finals of the Pac-10 Championships, including Robles, Jenkins, Jake Meredith (184) and Luke Macchiaroli (197) with Robles and Meredith each winning titles, the third in a row for Robles and the first for Meredith...Cooper and Eric Starks (174) also qualified for nationals by placing third in their weight classes...as a team, faced eight teams in duals that were ranked in the Top 25 at the time (0-8) and finished ahead of six of those teams at the NCAA Championships at the end of the season...the team's finish in Philadelphia was the highest since the 2006 squad also finished sixth...individually, Robles went 36-0 on the season to earn his first national crown (defeated defending champion Matt McDonough of Iowa, 7-1, in the final) and his third All-America honor...Jenkins also reached the final and gave ASU two finalists in the same tournament for the first time since 1993 when Markus Mollica (1st at 158), Ray Miller (1st at 167) and current head coach Shawn Charles (2nd at 126) made the final...Jenkins, who transferred to ASU from Penn State, handed PSU's David Taylor his first lost of the year with a win by fall in the second period, wrapping up his former teammate in a cradle for the win in Jenkins' second-career NCAA finals appearance...Jenkins won the title just two months removed from knee surgery that sidelined him from mid-January until the Pac-10 tournament...both Sun Devils earned awards at the end of the season and throughout...for Robles, he was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler at five events, including the NCAA Championships, the Pac-10 Championships, the Las Vegas Invitational, the Reno Tournament of Champions and the Lone Star Duals, before being named the Pac-10 Wrestler of the Year for the second time in his career...also earned a pair of ESPY Awards, including the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance and the Best Male Athlete with a Disability Award...one of the top trending names on Twitter following his win, Robles appeared in countless interviews, articles and media appearances throughout the world, including in media pieces in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, China and Brazil...Jenkins also received a conference honor as he was selected the 2011 Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year while Charles was named the 2011 Pac-10 Coach of the Year...Cooper, in his first national appearance, was unseeded and upset No. 4 Dominic Russo of Rutgers in the opening round before eventually settling for eighth place and his first All-America honor...Robles and Jenkins both competed in the NWCA All-Star Classic (exhibition matches) and were the only two to win by other than a decision, including Robles' 20-2 tech fall over No. 4 Zach Sanders of Minnesota and Jenkins' 12-4 major decision over No. 1 Adam Hall of Boise State...several individual titles were won during the year to go along with the national and conference crowns, including wins at the Las Vegas Invitational (Robles), the Reno Tournament (Robles, Cooper) and the Fullerton Open (Starks)...freshmen that redshirted and competed unattached during the season also won titles, including Nathan Hoffer (149 ERAU Mile High and 149 Colorado Mines Open), Derek Felton (165 at Utah Valley Open), Bobby Bowman (184 at Colorado Mines Open) and Tommy Burriel (197 at ERAU Mile High and 197 at Colorado Mines Open)...an 18-2 tech fall win over Trent Sprenkle of North Dakota State gave Robles the Reno title and his 100th career win...Robles finished his career with 122 wins, the eighth-most in school history...statistically, Robles ended the year with 31 wins by bonus-points (major, tech, pin and forfeit), surpassing the previous ASU single-season record of Cain Velasquez (30 in 2005-06)...Robles also set school records for season tech fall wins (24), career bonus-point wins (90) and career tech fall wins (45)... the Sun Devils went 1-4 in home duals on the year and averaged 988 fans at each dual, including a season-best 1,413 fans for the January 30 dual against Cal Poly, the final home event for seniors Robles and Jenkins.
