Arizona State romps against Texas A&M.
2008 (Senior):
Guided the Devils to their first NCAA Championship in program history, compiling a stellar 0.75 ERA on the year with a 41-5 record, including the shut-out championship game against Texas A&M... Finished her career on the top of the records book, with 118 career wins and 1,670 career strikeouts, far overshadowing her competition... Also holds the first, third, and sixth place records in season wins, as well as the top three slots for season strikeouts... Her 41 wins place her at 20th in the NCAA Division I records for victories in a single season, and her 513 strikeouts are 16th overall, one place behind her junior year record of 517... Received Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors for April 8-14, her ninth accolade... Pitched two perfect games on the year (March 14 vs. Santa Clara and Feb. 22 vs. Illinois State), pulling her total to three in her ASU career... Was the No. 1 pick in the National Pro Fastpitch Senior Draft, the first top pick in ASU history... Had her second consecutive First-Team All-American honor alongside teammate Kaitlin Cochran.
2007 (Junior):
Bested her own ASU records from 2006 in every category as she compiled a 1.11 ERA, 35 wins and 517 strikeouts... Her 35 wins bested the ASU single-season record of Erica Beach's 33 in 2002, as well as tying for 10th all-time in Pac-10 history... Also topped her own single-season strikeout record of 420 from the 2006 season with nearly 100 more strikeouts in a final tally of 517, good for 16th all-time in NCAA single-season history as well as a new Pac-10 single-season record... Stands at first, second and seventh in single-season strikeouts in ASU history... Entered the 1,000+ career strikeout list, which only 30 other pitchers in NCAA history have entered... Was named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week three times throughout the 2007 season... Was one of ten finalists for 2007 USA Softball's National Player of the Year award, along with teammate Kaitlin Cochran... Pitched the first perfect game since 1999 on March 15 in a 3-0 win over Notre Dame... Received Louisville Slugger/NFCA Co-Player of the Week for the week ending April 15...Was named NFCA First-Team All-American and Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year.
2006 (Sophomore):In the first year under Coach Clint Myers' direction, Burkhart notched 30 wins, tenth most in the nation on the year, and had an ERA of 1.15, which was 20th nationally... Received two consecutive Pitcher of the Week nods (April 4-10, April 11-17), after throwing 23 strikeouts against Washington and 22 against Arizona which placed her at fifth and sixth, respectively, in the NCAA record books for single-game strikeouts... Was also named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for March 27-April 2... Match against U of A on April 15 saw Burkhart pitch ten consecutive innings for the first ASU victory over the Wildcats since March 16, 2002...Helped win gold medal for USA University Team in 2006 World University Games in Taiwan.
2005 (Freshman):Started in 29 games, compiling a 12-14 record with five saves... Threw no-hitter against San Diego State on March 4, 2005... Was invited to 2005 Women's National Team Selection Camp... Also threw a one-hitter in a shutout over Syracuse.
Personal:The 2004 graduate of San Luis Obispo High School was named All-State in 2004, as well as the All-County MVP in both 2003 and 2004. She earned All-CIF honors twice, Second Team in 2003 and First Team in 2004, thanks to her .21 ERA and 358 strikeouts.The BIS major was born on February 24, 1986. Her parents are Bill and Debbie Burkhart of San Luis Obispo.
