2009 (Senior):
A star player on the 2008 National Championship team, Cochran was expected to do big things as the Sun Devils tried to repeat as Champions. She compiled a .410 batting average in 66 games with 64 hits. She hit an amazing 20 home runs and drove in 59 runs. Cochran was walked 64 times, most of those intentional on her way to one of the greatest seasons in Sun Devil Softball history. She led the Devils in Runs (69), Total Bases (135), slugging percentage (.865), and on-base percentage (.603). Led a young squad to the Women's College World Series for the second year in a row.
She stacked up the accolades at the end of her final season at ASU garnering First Team All-America honors. She was also named Pac-10 Player of the Year. She is only the second player in Pac-10 history to be named the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year in her freshmen season and then go on to earn Pac-10 Player of the Year in her Sophomore, Junior, and Senior season. She was a finalist for the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Year Award.
After her illustrious career as a Sun Devil was over, she was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2009 NPF Draft by Washington - becoming the second-straight Sun Devil to be drafted No. 1 overall (Katie Burkhart in 2008).
2008 (Junior):
Had 29 intentional walks over the 2008 season, a new NCAA record, besting Stacey Neuveman's 28, ten of then coming in the NCAA Tournament alone and six in the World Series. Her dominance at the plate never waned though, as she still hit .439 on the season with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs for an amazing slugging percentage of .838. Her name now graces both Pac-10 and NCAA single-season and career lists with another season left to build on them. In addition to her third consecutive NFCA First-Team All-American Award, she was also named to her third straight Pac-10 first team and is the first player in Pac-10 history to win Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year and then consecutive back-to-back Pac-10 Player of the Year Awards. Kaitlin was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team and the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine All- Academic District VIII Second Team.
2007 (Sophomore):
In 2007, Kaitlin hit .492 on the season, which helped her claim the 2007 NCAA National Batting Title as well as her second Pac-10 batting title in as many years. Her .492 average places her seventh all-time in Pac-10 history and her career average of .464 places her fourth all-time in Pac-10 career history as well. In ASU records, Kaitlin sits atop the single-season records of batting average (.492), home runs (18), RBI (61), and hits (92). In career ASU records, Kaitlin is first in batting average (.456), second in home runs (50), second in RBI (171), 5th in hits (251), 3rd in doubles (43) and fourth in stolen bases (50). Cochran was also honored again in 2007 by the Pac-10, this time with the Player of the Year award. Her talents at the plate were well known and feared by opponents as she was walked 59 times on the season good for 10th in Pac-10 history and 15 times intentionally, which is eighth all-time in NCAA history.
2006 (Freshman):
Named First-Team All-American accolades and Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year.
High School:
Cochran also had a stellar high school career at Rosary High School. Katie was a four-time All-Sierra League First Team member, as well as a three-time member of the First Team All-County squad. During her senior season, she was named the Sierra League MVP, and earned First Team All-State, First Team All-Region and All-American honors. She chose ASU because of the Sun Devils reputation of being one of the top softball programs in the nation and also for a chance to compete in the Pac-10.
