Player Bio: Rhiannon Baca

Heading into her senior season as a Sun Devil, Rhiannon returns as a huge staple in the infield and at the plate. As the starting shortstop, Rhiannon started in 70 of ASU's 71 games on the season. Baca's quick glove and range of motion gave her a stellar .920 fielding percentage with 87 putouts and 73 assists on the season. At the plate, Baca hit .259, increasing her batting average a huge .039 from her sophomore year average of .220. Baca also hit a career-high eight home runs on the season to bring her career total to 15, including a three-RBI walk-off home run to top Cal State Fullerton on March 17. No stranger to hitting in pressure situations, Baca also hit another walk-off in the 2006 season, coming in the 11th inning against in-state rival, Arizona to beat the Wildcats for the first time since 2001. Rhiannon also had a career-hit 33 RBIs, while accumulating a .406 slugging percentage and drawing 35 walks. As solid in the classroom as she is on the field, Rhiannon was named to the 2007 Pac-10 All-Academic and ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII second teams.

The Flagstaff High graduate was a force on the high school diamond, earning Grand Canyon Region Softball MVP honors three times, as well as being a three-time honoree on the First Team All-State list. Baca holds the Flagstaff High School record for home runs in a single season with 11. The elementary education major was also a member of the National Honor Society and National Honor Roll in high school. Rhiannon was born into an athletic family to Rudy and Patty Baca of Flagstaff on June 10, 1986 and has a sister, Jessica (19) who plays softball at Central Arizona.
