ASU: A mainstay on the Sun Devil defensive line...proved his versatility last year with a successful switch to tackle from defensive end...one of the strongest players on the roster...has started 29 games in his career...one of two players on this year's squad to have already earned his bachelor's degree...was recognized as a Hard Hat Player for his work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program.
2002: Started in all 14 games...notched 30 tackles, 12 were unassisted...recorded five-and-a-half tackles for loss totaling 24 yards...had three sacks for 19 yards...had one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries on the year...big game against California included seven tackles, two were for loss, and a forced fumble...against Oregon, recovered the fumble which led to the Sun Devils' first lead in ASU's dramatic comeback victory...recovered a fumble vs. Kansas State in the Holiday Bowl.
2001: Started all 11 games...had 25 tackles, nine unassisted...added four tackles for loss...had four tackles vs. Arizona, including two for loss...will help anchor experienced defensive line in 2002.
2000: Played in all 12 games with four starts...registered 11 tackles, seven unassisted...also turned in two quarterback sacks, one forced fumble and one recovered fumble...turned in three tackles vs. Colorado State, including a quarterback sack at the line of scrimmage...earned another sack for a loss of six yards the following week vs. Utah State...had three tackles and a forced fumble vs. California.
1999: Redshirted.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 1999 graduate of Royal High School...A 1998 preseason All-American by PrepStar Magazine...also listed by PrepStar as the No. 14 defensive lineman in the Western Region...listed as the No. 93 prospect in the Far West by SuperPrep Magazine...selected all-league and all-county as a junior...accumulated 13 quarterback sacks, 22 solo tackles, 20 assists and three fumble recoveries as a senior...collected 65 tackles, 15 quarterback sacks and 10 tackles for loss as junior...was timed at 4.65 in the 40-yard dash...carried a 3.5 grade-point average.
PERSONAL: Earned his bachelor's degree in justice studies in the spring of 2003 and is enrolled in graduate classes...parents are Fred (car restoration) and Marie (marketing assistant) Montesanto of Simi Valley, Calif....has three siblings (Paul, Danielle and D'Arynne)...born May 30, 1981, in Thousand Oaks, Calif....hobbies include weight lifting and working on hot rods.
