Player Bio: Jesse Ainsworth



ASU CAREER: Four-year kicker for the Sun Devils who also was one of the nation's top kickoff specialists...played in all 49 games during the 2003-06 seasons, one of only three Sun Devils to do so in that span...only the fourth Sun Devil since 1973 to serve as ASU's kicker all four seasons, joining Mike Richey (1989-92), Luis Zendejas (1981-84) and Danny Kush (1973-76)...for his career, he connected on 51-of-73 field goals (69.9 pct.)...kicked a career-long 48-yard field goal twice during the 2004 season...made 41-of-45 career field goal attempts from within 40 yards (91.1 pct.)...also made 160-of-163 extra point attempts, including a Pac-10 Conference record 139 consecutive attempts, ranging from the final game of the 2003 season through the duration of his ASU career...his 160 made extra points stands as an ASU school record, breaking Luis Zendejas' previous mark of 137...scored a total of 313 points-by-kicking overall, second all-time at ASU behind Zendejas' 380 points...also ranks second behind Zendejas in Sun Devil history in made field goals...finished his career 11th in the nation among active kickers in both made field goals and field goal attempts...was a three-time Pac-10 All-Academic selection, including First-Team recognition in 2005 and 2006...earned Hard Hat Player honors for his work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program three times, prior to the 2004, 2005 and 2006 seasons...earned his degree (B.S., Justice Studies) following the Fall 2006 semester.

2006: Appeared in all 13 games as ASU's placekicker and kickoff specialist...earned First-Team Pac-10 All-Academic honors...led ASU in scoring (84 points)...converted 14-of-19 field goal attempts (73.7 pct.), with a long of 47 yards...successfully converted all 42 extra point attempts on the year, stretching his streak to a Pac-10 record 139 consecutive made PATs...made 10-of-11 attempts from within 40 yards...kicked 39 touchbacks among 70 kickoffs...connected on his final nine field goal attempts of the season, spanning the season's final four games...was named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance in ASU's win over Washington State on Nov. 11 in which he scored 17 points, connecting on all four field goals he attempted (34, 46, 47 and 32 yards)...also made his season-long field goal (47 yards) against the Cougars, one yard short of his career high, set twice during the 2004 season...one week later, against UCLA on Nov. 18, he tied his career-high, making four field goals for the second straight week (45, 35, 30 and 20 yards)...earned Hard Hat Player honors for his work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program for the third consecutive year (third overall in points).

2005: Played in all 12 games...was perhaps ASU's most versatile and frequently-used special teams member, serving as the team's placekicker, punter and kickoff specialist...earned first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors, posting a 3.58 grade point average...was presented the Clyde B. Smith award, which is given to honor a player's exemplary academic efforts...led ASU in scoring (80 points)...finished 9-of-11 (81.8 pct.) in field goals, and was a perfect 53-of-53 on extra points...enjoyed the most accurate season of his career...connected on all nine of his field goal attempts inside 40 yards...booted 46-of-78 kickoffs for touchbacks...was successful on his final six field goal attempts of the season...produced the game-winning, 20-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining against rival Arizona on senior day...made a season-long 34-yard field goal against No. 25 Oregon...took over punting duties against Washington on Oct. 29...averaged 35.0 yards on 21 punts for the season with a long punt of 53 yards, coming against Arizona...forced six fair catches and landed nine punts inside the 20-yard line...was named a preseason third-team All-Pac-10 selection by Athlon Sports...ranked as the 17th-best kicker in the nation by the Sporting News...was recognized as a Hard Hat player for his work in ASU's winter strength and conditioning program for the second consecutive season (sixth in points).

2004: Played in all 12 games in 2004... earned honorable-mention All-Pac-10 accolades... was a second-team Pac-10 All-Academic selection...was also selected to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District VII first team...was named the Babe Alex Demon Award winner for 2004, given annually to ASU's Special Teams Player of the Year...ranked second in the Pac-10 and 13th in the nation with 1.50 field goals per game...led the team in scoring with 94 points...was second in the league in kick scoring and third in overall scoring (7.8 points per game)...connected on 18-of-28 field goals and was a perfect 40-of-40 on PAT kicks...was one of two kickers in the Pac-10 to make all of his PAT attempts...averaged 64.7 yards per kickoff on the season and recorded 43 touchbacks...connected on both of his field goal attempts against UTEP, including a career-long kick of 48 yards...converted 3-of-4 field goal attempts with a long of 41 yards at Northwestern...nailed a pair of fourth-quarter field goals and recorded a season-high two tackles against the Wildcats...earned Pac-10 Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 18 for his role in ASU's win over then No. 16/12 Iowa...tied his career- and season-long with a 48-yard field goal, made all three of his field goal attempts and recorded six touchbacks against the Hawkeyes...drilled his fourth 40-yard field goal of the season with a 45-yarder against Oregon State...made 2-of-3 attempts in that game...recorded season highs in extra points made (six), yards per kickoff average (70.0) and touchbacks (six) vs. Washington State...had three tackles on the year.

2003: Played in all 12 games as a true freshman...began the season as ASU's kickoff specialist and earned job as full-time kicker...connected on 10-of-15 field goal attempts and 25-of-28 extra-point attempts...was 8-of-9 on field goals inside the 40-yard line...drilled a season-long 47-yard field goal at No. 8 Washington State...made all eight extra-point attempts and a 43-yard field goal at North Carolina for a season-high 11 points...finished third on the team in scoring with 55 points...eighth in the Pac-10 in kick scoring at 4.6 points per game...recorded 16 kickoffs for touchbacks...had two tackles on the season.

HIGH SCHOOL: A 2003 graduate of Thousand Oaks (Calif.) High School....was rated as the No. 106 player in the Farwest (Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Washington) by SuperPrep Magazine...the No. 2 rated kicker in the West by PacWestFootball.com...a member of the Tacoma News Tribune's "Western 100"...earned "Top 12" honors at the Chris Sailer's 1st Annual National Kicking Competition held at UNLV on Jan. 11-12, 2003...averaged 41.1 yards per punt as a senior and was 9 of 15 on field goals...longest field goal as a senior was 56 yards...hit 41, 55 and 56-yarders in one game...it marked the first time ever in California a player had two field goals over 50 yards in one game...missed three field goals due to blocks and missed from 56 and 62 yards...hit 17 of 19 extra points as a senior (both misses due to blocks)...earned first-team all-league, all-county and All-C.I.F. as a kicker as a senior...was All-C.I.F. three times...selected second-team all-state as a senior...as a defensive end, collected nine quarterback sacks, 50 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles as a senior...hit 51 of 52 extra points as a junior and was three of six on field goals...also was a standout punter, averaging 35.6 yards with 88 percent not returned...earned first-team all-league, all-county and All-C.I.F. as a junior...was All-C.I.F. at punter as a sophomore and all-league and all-county...averaged 39.3 yards per punt as a sophomore...set the following Thousand Oaks High School records: most PAT's in one game (8 vs. Simi Valley HS, '01); most PATs in one season (51 in '01); most PATs in a career (78, '00-02); longest field goal (56 yards vs. Royal HS, '02); longest season punting average (41.1, '02); and longest pass reception (87 yards vs. Newbury Park HS, '00)...boasted a 3.7 grade-point average in high school...was coached by Mike Sanders.

PERSONAL: Earned his degree (B.S., Justice Studies) following the Fall, 2006 semester...parents are John (retired police lieutenant) and Jean (registered nurse)...siblings are Jenna (22) and Jami (25)...Jenna plays soccer at Pepperdine...father played football at Cal State Northridge...hobbies include snowboarding, fishing and hiking...born June 2, 1985 in Thousand Oaks, Calif....full name is Jesse Jon Ainsworth.
