Rated the No. 8 corner in the West by PacWestFootball but also projected as a safety in college, is a hard-hitter with the speed to match-up with opposing wide receivers… rated as the 17th-best player in the state by SuperPrep and a member of the Farwest team…PrepStar all-Region selection…named all-Arizona Second-team by The Arizona Republic…member of the Super All-State 2001 Team by Phoenix Metro Magazine…member of the All-Informant team, selected annually by The Arizona Informant …an outstanding athlete who first made a national splash when he dominated the Nike Football Training Camp in San Diego…as a senior ran a 4.55 in the 40, a 4.21 in the shuttle, jumped 30 inches in the vertical and did 20 reps on the bench…as a senior had 32 solo tackles, 10 assists, two interceptions, three quarterback sacks and nine tackles for losses…also rushed 115 times for 1,129 yards and 16 touchdowns…as a junior, James totaled 102 tackles and three interceptions while playing safety, but almost looks like a linebacker on film…earned second-team all-Metro as a junior…was the Freshman Most Valuable Player at Maryvale …also returned kickoffs…hails from same high school that produced Sun Devil players Daryl Lightfoot, Josh Kirkwood, Marquise Muldrow, Darren Woodson and Phillippi Sparks…played for coach Tom Bruney at Maryvale High School.
