Christine Garner begins her third season as an assistant coach and her seventh season with the Sun Devil volleyball program. Garner will help with all aspects of the volleyball program, including recruiting and skill development. In her first two years with ASU as a coach, Garner helped facilitate the record-breaking year of Amanda Burbridge in 2000 and has continually developed ASU's outside hitters to rank among the top 10 in Pac-10 play.
Although only in her third year as a coach on the Sun Devil staff, Garner is no stranger to the Maroon and Gold of the ASU volleyball program. A standout on the court for the Sun Devils from 1992-95, Garner still ranks No. 1 in the record books with 1,871 career kills, and led ASU volleyball to its two finest seasons in history. Her 1,871 career kills still ranks third in Pac-10 volleyball history. As one of the most illustrious players to ever take to the court for the Sun Devil volleyball program, Garner also ranks in the top 10 in career digs and service aces. She was a six-time Pac-10 Player of the Week and was also a recipient of a National Player of the Week honor. In addition to her numerous accolades at ASU, Garner was a two-time All-American and an all-Pac-10 performer. To cap off her stellar athletic career as a Sun Devil, Garner was also a star performer on the ASU softball team and captained the women's basketball squad.
After her ASU career ended in 1995, Garner played recurrently with the U.S. National Team in tournaments including the 1995 Goodwill Games, 1997 Grand Prix and 1997 NORCECA tournament. While competing as a starter with the U.S. National team in the '95 Goodwill Games in St. Petersburg, Russia, Garner helped lead the Red, White and Blue to a silver medal. She left the national team in 1997 and played two seasons with the European Professional Volleyball League in Turkey and Italy.
Garner returned to Tempe in 2000 after coaching at the University of Toledo. She has also been a successful coach at the club level with Glass City Club in Toledo and Arizona East Valley Juniors. Garner completed her bachelors of fine arts degree in 1997 from ASU. The Tustin, Calif., native also recently completed her first year of playing professional football in the Women's American Football League (WAFL) for the Arizona Caliente.
