ASU Volleyball Sweeps at Sun Devil Challenge
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State volleyball team defeated a tough Cal Poly SLO team, 3-1, to go undefeated in the Phoenix Airport Hilton/Sun Devil Challenge this afternoon. Game scores were 15-11, 15-7, 11-15 and 18-16.
Tournament MVP and senior outside hitter Terri Cox led ASU with 21 kills and 15 digs. Teammate Jen Lucero added 13 kills and 15 digs while sophomore Jamie Peck added nine kills and six block assists for the Devils.
Outside hitter Melissa Pierce paced Cal Poly with a match-high 25 kills. All-Tournament team member and middle blocker Kari DeSoto added 17 kills and seven blocks for the Mustangs.
Portland State (1-2) defeated St. Mary's College (0-3) in the earlier match, 3-0. Game scores were 15-8, 17-15 and 15-13.
Cox is joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Kirstin Mattson and Jolynn Faatulu, Cal Poly's DeSoto and Louelle Lipana and Portland's State's Eavi Shovlin.
Arizona State improves to 3-0 on the year.
The Sun Devils travel to Stephen F. Austin University (Nacogdoches, Tx.) to compete in the LadyJack Invitational next week.
