Oregon Edges Arizona State in Five Games

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Oregon outside hitter Madeline Ernst had a match-high 29 kills as Oregon outlasted Arizona State, 3-2, in a Saturday night Pac-10 matchup in Eugene, Oregon. Game scores were 9-15, 15-11, 9-15, 15-9 and 16-14.
Arizona State was led by junior Shawna Vanley and senior Terri Cox who had 13 kills each. Vanley added two block solos and five block assists while Cox added a match-high 18 digs to the effort. Sophomore middle blocker Ashley Ottman had a career-high eight kills and eight block assists on the night.
The Sun Devils took the loss despite outblocking the Ducks 13 to 5.5 and outdigging Oregon 58 to 35.
Alison Pepe and Michelle Christ added 11 kills each to the Oregon effort. Setter Casey Crisler had a match-high 54 assists. The Ducks improve to 9-18 overall, 1-14 in Pac-10 play.
Arizona State is now to 13-14 overall, 4-12 in the conference.
Arizona State closes out the 1997 season at home with UCLA and USC in the University Activity Center Friday and Saturday night respectively. Games times are at 7 p.m.
