Arizona State Falls to No. 10 Washington State
PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington Sate Cougars volleyball team, ranked No. 10 in the USA Today/AVCA poll, defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils, 15-1, 15-6, 15-3, before a Halloween crowd of 756 in Bohler Gym Friday night.
The Cougars improve to 20-4 overall and 8-4 in the Pacific-10 conference.
The Coug's jumped in front from the start and never relinquished their lead in the match. All but two Cougar players record a kill. Shannon Wyckoff led WSU with 16 kills and 12 digs. Elis Arias followed with 12 kills for a .611 hitting percentage and 10 digs. Stephanie Papke led all players with 23 assists.
The Cougars out-hit the Sun Devils with 49 kills to their 21. ASU only managed a .011 hitting percentage to WSU's .358.
Freshman Amanda Burbridge and senior Kirstin Mattson each had six kills for the Devils. Mattson also added four block assists and seven digs.
Arizona State (12-10, 3-8 Pac-10) will face Washington tonight at 7 p.m. PST in continued Pac-10 action.
