ASU Volleyball Falls to No. 7

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Senior outside hitter Terri Cox had 11 kills and 10 digs as the Arizona State volleyball team fell to seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 0-3, at the UCSB Judy Bellomo Classic in Santa Barbara, California yesterday. Game scores were 15-2, 15-12, 15-8.

Sophomore middle blocker Laura Hibsman was the only other Sun Devil in double figures in kills with 10. Senior middle blocker Kirstin Mattson added five kills on eight attempts and no errors (.625 attack percentage).

For her efforts throughout the tournament, Cox was named to the all-tournament team.

UCSB's Roberta Gehlke led all attackers with a match-high 18 kills while teammate Katie Crawford added 17 kills. Setter Tanja Hart had 47 assists and two service aces for the Guachos.

ASU defeated Portland State, 3-1, earlier on Saturday.

Arizona State (9-2, 0-0 Pac-10) will face the Australian National team in an exhibition match at the University Activity Center on Tuesday, September 16 at 7 p.m. before kicking off conference play in Los Angeles, California.
