OFF THE TEE: Redshirted in 1998-99 and has competed in 24 events in his three years and has three top-10 finishes…had a solid summer, highlighted by winning the PNGA title in July…also finished a semifinalist at the 2002 U.S. Public Links and at the 2002 Western Amateur…rankedbest tournament in collegiate career was in January of 2001 when he tied for second at the Ping/Arizona Intercollegiate with a 5-under 208…shot a 2-under 286 (72-68-74-72) at the 87th Southwestern Amateur held at Karsten Golf Course on June 11-14, 2002…tied for sixth with ASU teammate Jesse Mueller at the 2001 Southwestern Amateur held June 5-8 at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Course in Fountain Hills, Ariz., with a 2-over 286 (72-72-73-69)…fourth in the Championship Flight at the 2001 Northern California Golf Association Public Links Championship at Spyglass Hill Country Club in Pebble Beach, Calif., on July 23-24 with a 5-over 144 (73-76).
2002 PNGA CHAMPION: Stockton won the 2002 Pacific Northwest Golf Association Amateur Championship on July 13 after winning six straight matches at the Spokane Country Club. He defeated Corey Prugh in 37 holes to win the 101st championship. Stockton's win was the seventh PNGA title earned by five Sun Devils in the event, as Jeff Quinney won the event in 2000 and 2001, Todd Kernaghan won the title in 1989, Billy Mayfair won back-to-back championships in 1987-88 and Jim Strickland was the first Sun Devil to earn the honor in 1986. Stockton shot a 141 (72-69) to finish 10th in stroke play and then beat John Shin (5 and 4), Tom Herrick (2 and 1), Paul Houvener (2 and 1), Aaron Byers (5 and 4) and Alex Prugh (1 up) to advance to the final where he beat Prugh.
2001-2002: Played in 11 tournaments and had one top-10 finish…tied for ninth at the USC Cleveland Classic with a 5-over 218 (81-68-69)…tied for 17th at the Pac10 Championship…low round was a 67 in the final round of the ASU Thunderbird/SAVANE Invitational on April 13.
2000-2001: Played in eight tournaments and had a 73.58 stroke average…best finish was when he tied for second at the Ping/Arizona Intercollegiate with a 5-under 208, including a 67 in the first round…had a 68 in the second round before finishing with a 73…in his first tournament of the year he tied for ninth at the Badger Invitational with a 1-over 217 (75-72-70).
1999-2000: Competed in five events and posted a 74.93 stroke average…best round was a 68 in the second round of the ASU Thunderbird/SAVANE Invitational on April 15...also competed in the Ping Preview, Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, PING/Arizona Intercollegiate and the Southwestern Classic.
JUNIOR ACCOLADES: Reached No. 2 ranking in GOLFWEEK/Titleist for juniors during 1998…a member of the 1998 American Junior Golf Association Canon Cup West Team…a 1998 first-team All-America pick by the AJGA and 1997 third-team selection…qualified for the Amateur with a two-round score of 136 and birdied his first five holes in the qualifier…won 1998 ClubCorp Championship at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio in late May…recorded first AJGA victory at 1997 Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail Junior Classic in Mobile, Ala.…was second at the 1998 Rolex Tournament of Champions in Coto de Casa, Calif.…finalist in 1998 Western Junior Open Championship in Chicago…qualified for U.S.G.A. Junior Amateur Championship in 1995, 1996 and 1997…posted a hole-in-one at the 1995 Championship at Fargo (N.D.) Country Club, the lone hole-in-one at the tournament until Chanin Puntawong, 15, of Bradenton, Fla., scored a an ace in the 2002 Junior Amateur with a 6-iron at the 183-yard 7th hole…1996 Junior Golfer of the Year and overall point leader for northern California…won 1996 Johnny Miller Junior Golf Classic with nine birdies in first round…Blackhawk Country Club 1995 and 1996 Junior Champion…placed first or tied for first in 24 tournaments in his junior golf and high school career.
MONTE VISTA HIGH SCHOOL: Attended Monte Vista High School in Danville, Calif.…competed in the Bay Valley Athletic League and earned all-league honors three times…placed second in 1996 Northern California State High School Championships…team won the Northern California state title in 1995 and 1997…earned top honors at the 1998 North Coast Section Championship, the East Bay Athletic League Championship and the Sharp High School Tournament…played first man in three of four seasons.
