Player Bio: Jin Park :: Men's Golf



 

OFF THE TEE: A key part of the past three Pac-10 Championships…one of two Sun Devils (Jeff Quinney is the other) to play in the past three NCAA Championships…played in 11 tournaments in his first year on campus (1997-98), played in 12 in 1998-99 and 12 in 1999-2000…turned 21 years old on Oct. 12, 2000…a tough competitor…born in Seoul, Korea…qualified and played in the Los Angeles Open at age 16…his 66 in the third round of the 1998 Pac-10 Championship helped lead the Sun Devils comeback as ASU captured its fourth straight title…posted a 65 in the first round of the Pac-10 Championships in 2000.

SUMMER OF 2000: Was top amateur and 12th overall at the Arizona Open (June 8-10) with a 2-over 218 (72-72-74) held at Troon Golf and Country Club in Scottsdale…shot a 13-over 289 (69-73-73-74) at the Northeast Amateur June 22-25 at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, Rhode Island

1999-2000: Tied for fifth at NCAA West Regional with a 6-under 210 (68-70-72)…helped lead ASU to sixth consecutive Pac-10 crown with a 4-under 284, which included a 65 in the first round…tied for seventh at the Golf Worldi Invitational with a 9-under 207 (71-68-68)…tied for 14th at the Ping Preview with an even 216 (72-74-70)…had four rounds in the 60s

SUMMER OF 1999: Was the top qualifier at the U.S. Amateur Public Links section qualifying held at Papago Golf Club in mid-June as he shot a 135 (66-69)…shot a 73-71-67-72 at the Porter Cup at Niagra Falls Country Club in Lewiston, N.Y.

1998-99: Tied for fifth at the Ping/Arizona Intercollegiate, including a 66 in the second round, and was ASU’s top finisher with a 1-under 212 (71-66-75)…tied for 11th at the USC Southwestern Invitational and was ASU’s top finisher with a 4-over 217 (70-72-75)…made 12 appearances and played in 36 rounds…had a 73.97 stroke average…shot a 17-over 305 (74-76-79-76) at the NCAA Championships held at Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minn….tied for 23rd at the Pac-10 Championships with an 11-over-par 291 (72-70-72-77).

1997-98: Played in 11 tournaments in first year…ASU’s top finisher in his first tournament of collegiate career, as he finished tied for 27th at the Tucker Invitational…tied for 12th at the USC Cleveland Golf/Southwestern Invitational with an 8-over-par 221 (71-74-76)…finished fourth at the Pac-10 Championships with a 2-under-par 286, including a season-best 66 in the third round…his 66 was the low Sun Devil round of the day and enabled ASU to begin its comeback from a 21-stroke deficit after two rounds to host California…ASU eventually won by 11 strokes over UCLA and ended up beating fourth-place California by 17 strokes.

SUNNY HILLS HIGH SCHOOL: AJGA 1997 First-Team All-American…qualified for 1997 U.S. Amateur and competed in match play…a 1997 graduate of Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, Calif.…named Most Valuable Player of the Empire Conference in 1995, 1996 and 1997…a California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) first-team pick in 1997…participated in both the Los Angeles Open and the United States Amateur…captain of golf team in senior year.

ETC.: Majoring in political science…father, Kyo Park, is a clothing manufacturer…mother’s name is Mihae Park…has an older sister, Susan…born Oct. 12, 1979 in Seoul, Korea…family resides in Fullerton.
