Player Bio: Dwight Phillips



International: Recently earned his second Olympic berth for Team USA after winning the 2004 US Team Trials long jump event ... burst onto the international scene in 2000 when he placed second at the US Team Trials before finishing eighth at the Sydney Games in the long jump ... since then, won the 2003 US Outdoor long jump title, the 2003 World Indoor title and the 2003 World Outdoor title ... completed the `Triple Crown' in 2003 by adding the long jump title at the IAAF Grand Prix Final ... the 2001 US Indoor champion also finished eighth at the 2001 World Outdoor Championships.

2000 Outdoor: Finished as the national runner-up in the long jump for the second time this season with a leap of 26-7.75 at the national meet...also earned All-America honors with the 4x100m relay team after a fourth-place finish at the national meet...named the Pac-10 Athlete of the Week for April 11.

2000 Indoor: Earned two more All-America honors as he finished as the national runner-up in the long jump and eighth in the triple jump...set a school record in the long jump at the national meet with his leap of 8.11m (26-7.25)...also established the ASU mark in the triple jump with a mark of 16.07m (52-8.75)...won the MPSF Championships long jump event at 25-9.50.

1999 Outdoor: Placed fourth in both the long jump and triple jump at the NCAA Championships...cleared 26-0 in the long jump and 53-10.25 in the triple jump in Boise to earn All-American acclaim in both...the triple jump mark of 53-10.25 ranks as the second-best in ASU history and was surpassed by only eight other Americans in 1999...captured conference crowns in both the long and triple jump...the first person to win both those titles in the same year since Oregon's Latin Berry in 1988...broke Kenny Frazier's 15-year-old school record in the long jump with a leap of 26-10, eighth best in Pac-10 history and a Pac-10 Championships record...it was the best jump in the Pac-10 since 1991...tied for the longest collegiate jump in 1999...only one American, Erick Walder, had a longer long jump in 1999...scored 26 of ASU's 77.5 team points at the Pac-10 meet, running a leg on ASU's second-place 4x100 squad and finishing fifth in the 200 meters (21.21)...became the third Sun Devil ever (LaMonte King, Dannie Jackson) and the first since 1981 to win two individual Pac-10 Championships in the same year...named Trackwire.com's National Male Athlete of the Week following the Pac-10 performance...placed sixth in the long jump at the USA Championships in Eugene (25-7.5)...as a result, represented the United States in Winnepeg at the Pan Am Games...he was the top American finisher at the '99 Pan Am Games, finishing seventh at 25-2.5...was 4-1 in outdoor long jump competitions during outdoor season and 7-2 including the indoor year...in addition to the Pac-10 title, he won the long jump at the ASU Invitational, Sun Angel Classic and UofA-NAU Double Dual...his only outdoor triple jumps competitions were at Pac-10s and NCAAs...the 4x100 relay that he ran the lead leg on registered the fifth-best time in ASU history with a 39.06 at the Sun Angel Classic...ran a season-best time of 21.09 in the prelims of the Pac-10 200 meters...clocked a personal-best time of 10.51 to finish second in the 100m at the Double Dual.

1999 Indoor: Finished second in the long jump at the NCAA Championships, leaping 25-3.5 to earn All-American status...that was his only loss in the long jump of the indoor season after winning the Flagstaff Invitational (24-9.75), the Double Dual (25-7.5) and MPSF Championships (24-10.5)...also MPSF Champion in the triple jump with thet third-best indoor TJ in ASU history (51-1.75)...was 2-0 in triple jump, also winning at the Double Dual...the Double Dual was his breakout meet as a Sun Devil as he won the long jump with a leap of 25-7.5, second-best in ASU indoor history, won the triple jump with a mark of 50-10.25, what was then the fourth-best TJ in ASU history, and won the 200 meters with a school indoor record time of 21.31...he also earned All-American honors in the 4x400 Relay as ASU finished fifth at NCAAs (3:10.42)...that relay team broke the school record with a time of 3:08.35 at the Cyclone Classic...Phillips ran a 47.2 leg

Kentucky: A Wildcat from Fall 1996 to Spring 1998...set freshman 400m record (46.80)...set school indoor triple jump record (51-3)...member of 1997 NCAA second-place indoor 4x4 relay team.

High School: A 1996 All-America and all-state selection...school record holder in triple jump (50-3), 200 (20.90w) and 400 (47.50)...member of 4x4 relay team that set a national age-group record in the 4x4 (3:06).

Personal: Majoring in communications...parents names are Allowisha (Al) Jr. and Laura Phillips...has three brothers: Al, Edwin and Demario...born October 1, 1977, in Decatur, Ga.
