The Sun Devil track & field team volunteered at the Kid's Rock Mile Run Saturday, January 12, in Tempe
Arizona State: Defending Pac-10 Champion at 200m.... ranks third all-time on the indoor 4x400m relay list at ASU with Jimmie Gordon, Justin Kremer and Joel Phillip (3:06.34) after running that time to finish third nationally and earn All-America honors... 2008 Outdoor: Was a part of two Pac-10 crowns and one runner-up finish... won the 200m dash in 20.91 after running fifth in the prelims... ran the third leg of the victorious 4x400m relay (3:04.75) after helping the 4x100m relay to a runner-up finish... regionally qualified for the 200m dash and 400m hurdles... finished fourth in the region at 200m (20.98) to qualify for the NCAA Championships (did not run in the hurdles)... placed 28th at the national meet... 2008 Indoor: Helped the 4x400m relay of Jimmie Gordon, Justin Kremer and Joel Phillip run 3:06.34 to finish third nationally at the NCAA Indoor Championships and clinch the team's first indoor team crown... time ranks as the third-fastest in school history... same realy won the MPSF Championships... competed in the 400m dash at three meets during the season... ran a personal-best of 48.28 to take second place at the NAU Tune-Up.
Barton County: Earned his Associates degree from Barton County Community College (Great Bend, Kan.) in 2007... was a three-time All-American at BCCC... won the 2006 NJCAA Outdoor 400m hurdles national title (50.58) as well as the 2006 NJCAA Indoor 4x400m relay (3:16.95)... team also won the 2006 NJCAA Indoor Championships and took third at the 2006 outdoor meet... his time in the hurdles is the second-best in BCCC history.
High School: A 2005 graduate of Robert S. Rogers High School (Toledo, Ohio)... lettered in track and field four times... captain of the team as a senior... 2005 Ohio state runner-up in the 300m hurdles in 36.77... his time is a school record... all-city, district and regional champion in the 300m hurdles... selected as his team's MVP and Most Inspirational athlete.
Personal: Majoring in BIS (Justice Studies and Communication)... mother is Wanda Gambrell... has two siblings: brother DerJuan Gambrell and sister Destinee Suttin... born January 30, 1987, in Toledo, Ohio... hobbies include skating, bowling and hanging out with friends... full name is Darryl Tyrone Elston.
