ASU: Looks to stake his claim as the greatest sprinter in school history... already owns school records in the outdoor 100 and indoor 55 and 60... NCAA runner-up in the indoor 60m after breaking the collegiate record in his first race as a Sun Devil in `99... also earned All-America acclaim in the indoor and outdoor 4x400 relays, and last year's outdoor 4x100... in his third season as a Sun Devil after transferring from Wyoming... enters this season with only outdoor eligibility.
2000 Outdoor: Placed sixth in his preliminary heat of the 100m (10.39) at the Olympic Trials in Sacramento...earned All-America honors as a member of the 4x100 relay team which placed fourth (39.16) at the NCAA championships...his 4x100 relay team also won the Pac-10 Championship in 39.35 and posted fourth-best time in school history (39.01), winning the Sun Angel Classic...placed third in the 100m (10.32) at the Pac-10 Championships...posted an NCAA provisional mark and season-best in the 100m (10.31) but failed to qualify for nationals...won the 100m (10.31) at the Double Dual...turned in a season-best 200m (21.05) at the Sun Angel Classic...ran a 400m season-best (47.99) at the ASU/USTCA Inv.
2000 Indoor: Finished third in his preliminary heat of the 60m with 6.71a at the NCAA Championships, placing 11th overall and failing to qualify for finals...won the 60m at the Double Dual with a season-best time of 6.54...ran a season-high 6.24 in the 55m at the Gator Invitational.
1999 Outdoor: In spite of muscle cramps and soreness that marred his postseason, still posted some historic numbers in his first outdoor season in college... broke Ron Brown's 18-year-old school record in the 100 with a 10.10 at the Wildcat Qualifier... that time ranked as the 12th fastest by an American in 1999 and the seventh-fastest by a collegian... it was also the sixth-best mark in Pac-10 history and the second-fastest of the 1990s... pulled up with a cramp in the 100 at the Pac-10 Championship after going 3-0 in three 100 races during regular season... in his only 200 outdoor race in three years, he ran the fifth-best time in ASU history, a 20.42 at the UA/NAU Double Dual... that ranked as the ninth-fastest time by a collegian in 1999... won Pac-10 Male Track Athlete of the Week honors after the Double Dual as he swept the 100 and 200... both his 100 and 200 times automatically qualified him for the NCAA Championship, but he did not participate in either event... did run legs on the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams at the NCAAs, earning All-America acclaim with the 4x400 squad that finished sixth... the 4x100 relay that he anchored registered the fifth-best time in ASU history with a 39.06 at the Sun Angel Classic... the 4x400 relay notched the seventh-best time in school history with a 3:03.94 at the Penn Relays... placed 30th in the 100 at the USA Championship (10.56).
1999 Indoor:In his first race as a Sun Devil at the Flagstaff Invitational, broke the collegiate record in the 60 with a time of 6.46... record was later broken by Leonard Myles-Mills of BYU (6.45)... it ranked as the third-fastest time run by an American in 1999, surpassed only by Maurice Greene (6.40) and Tim Harden (6.43)... went on to finish second at the NCAA Championship, losing to Tennessee's Leonard Scott, with a time of 6.62... was 4-1 in 60m races... also earned All-America honors in the 4x400 relay as ASU finished fifth at NCAAs (3:10.42)... that relay team broke the school record with a time of 3:08.35 at the Cyclone Classic... Brunson ran a 45.8 leg... also smashed the ASU 55m record with a time of 6.06 at the MPSF Championships, which he won.
Wyoming: Played football and ran track at Wyoming from Fall 1996 to Spring 1998... set Wyoming records in the 55m (6.10) and indoor 200 (21.21)... qualified for NCAAs in both events, but injuries prevented him from competing one year and hampered him the next... did not run outdoor track... played wide receiver for the Cowboys... tallied 15 receptions for 159 yards in 16 games over two seasons ... won 1996 WAC Pacific Division championship.
High School: Set school records in the 100 (10.66), 200 (21.11) and 400 (47.48)... 1996 state champion in the 100, 200 and 400... was a two-time All-Arizona performer in the 100 and 200 while earning all-state honors in 400 once.
Personal: Majoring in interdisciplinary studies... father, Michael, played football at ASU (1968-69) and later for the Atlanta Falcons... mother's name is Essie... has one brother, Michael (25)... uncle, Larry, played football at Colorado and later for the Broncos, Raiders and Chiefs... born April 24, 1978, in Mesa, Ariz.
