Player Bio: Justin Allen



Earned his bachelor of science degree in justice studies in May of 2003 and posted a 3.46 grade point average despite battling Hodgkin's Disease since the beginning of his sophomore year. Graduated in four years, played in 95 games in his career, earned Academic All-Pac-10 honors three straight seasons, and was the recipient of the 2003 Jimmy V. Comeback Award and the 2002 Gene Autry Courage Award. Redshirted in 2000-2001 as he battled Hodgkin's Disease. The first and last player in Malta High School history to sign with a Division I school, as it has since shut down. Signed with ASU in the 1999 spring period and was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in September of 2000 and began chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments and redshirted in 2000-2001. After finishing his chemotherapy in May of 2001, he took part in the May of 2001 Australia trip.

A second-team Pac-10 All-Academic selection in his senior year (2003-2004) who played season-high 25 minutes vs. USC on Feb. 14. Posted season-high 11 points and five boards in 24 minutes in overtime win over UCLA on Feb. 12. Started against both Stanford on Jan. 8 and vs. California on Jan. 10 and in final game of the season against Washington.

In his junior season of 2002-2003, he helped make the goals of his recruiting class a reality as ASU earned a NCAA Tournament berth for the first time since 1995. Allen earned first-team Pac-10 All-Academic honors and played in 19 games and played a season-high 15 minutes in Dec. 21 Las Vegas Showdown win over NCAA Tournament-bound Purdue.

Allen made his comeback from Hodgkin's Disease in 2001-2002 but his play was rusty from not being on the court for more than a year. He saw action in 24 games and averaged 5.7 minutes and shot 11-of-29 (.379) from the three-point stripe. He was the youngest player on the team in his freshman year (1999-2000) and played in 29 games and averaged 8.3 minutes. Posted six points and two three-pointers in 26 minutes at Oregon State on March 4 as squad went 19-12 with six freshmen.

He was Malta High School's all-time leading scorer with 2,143 points and averaged 26.7 points, 15.0 rebounds and 4.7 blocks for the 23-4 Mustangs in his senior year. He earned four letters in basketball, three in baseball, three in soccer and played goalie in soccer in high school and earned all-conference in 1998 and 1999. High school graduating class had 24 students.
