Player Bio: Jonathan Howard :: Men's Basketball



 

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The only freshman on this year's roster, Howard is an excellent shooter and solid student-athlete. He was listed as the 68th-best senior in the nation by The HOOPSCOOP online in April of 2000 and is one of five Arizona prep products on the roster. The 6-4 guard signed in the fall of 2000 and chose ASU over California and Notre Dame, although he took a psychology course at California-Berkeley in the summer of 1999 worked out with some of the Cal men's hoops team. A person who has had a big influence on his life is former NBA star and Cal great Kevin Johnson.

BROPHY PREPARATORY: Graduated from Phoenix Brophy College Preparatory in spring of 2000…played in the Desert Valley Region and earned three letters at Brophy Preparatory …captain of the basketball team in senior year…high school coach was Mark Granger…Desert Valley Region Player of the Year in 1998-99…a first-team all-region pick three straight years…an all-state pick in both his junior (1998-99) and senior seasons (1999-2000)…averaged 18 points, six boards and four assists in senior year…career best was a 35-point game…attended the Nike All-America Camp in summer of 1999…listed as the No. 31 backcourt prospect in the nation by The Sporting News prior to his senior year and the third-best shooting guard on the west coast by PacWest Hoops…rated No. 92 by Bob Gibbons.
