WHAT TO KNOW: Junior college wing who had a productive first season last year but wore down as the season progressed, but made 48 three-pointers, the most by a Sun Devil since Eddie House hit 73 in 1999-2000. Played high school at Dominguez (Calif.) with Tyson Chandler, Tayshaun Prince and Marcus Moore on one of the most celebrated high school teams in history. Posted 26 points in season opener vs. Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 22, the most points by a Sun Devil in a debut since Isaac Burton had 28 vs. BYU on Nov. 27, 1993. Nicknamed "Smore" by teammates in pick-up action, but with his energy and smile "Stevie" stuck as a nickname. Southpaw visited ASU in the spring of 2002 and former Sun Devil Curtis Millage showed him around campus the weekend ASU clinched fourth-place in the Pac-10 and earned its NCAA Tournament berth. Was the third junior college spring signee for ASU in the previous three years, joining the highly successful Curtis Millage (2001 signee) and productive Jamal Hill in spring of 2002, and ASU then signed two more junior college transfers last spring in Bryson Krueger and Tyrone Jackson. Also an accomplished baseball player out of high school who was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 17th round of the 2001 draft.
JUNIOR SEASON (2003-2004): Finished 17th in the Pac-10 in scoring (12.7 per game) and was eighth in free throw shooting (.814)...66-of-79 (.835) from the free throw line in the final 22 games...averaged 17 points on Los Angeles road trip and was 15-of-18 (.833) from the free throw line...sixteen points vs. fourth-ranked Stanford on Jan. 8...had 20 second-half points at Nebraska on Dec. 3, including five three-pointers, and ended with 22 points...led Sun Devils with 23 points vs. fourth-ranked Arizona on Jan. 3...posted three 20-point games...15 points and seven boards vs. Western Michigan on Dec. 30...16 points in 33 minutes on 6-of-8 shooting vs. UC Riverside on Nov. 29...14 points, nine boards and five assists in 30 minutes vs. Cal State Fullerton on Nov. 24...went 10-of-10 from the free throw line vs. Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 26.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Ranked No. 38 in the final CBS SportsLine recruiting rankings for junior college recruits by Tony Mejia...was listed as the 17th-best junior college prospect in the Basketball Times preseason issue in fall of 2002 after having junior college scoring games while playing for Santa Ana in 2001-2002 of 38 points vs. both Barstow and Fullerton...played for Santa Ana College in 2001-2002 and was sixth-leading scorer in California Community Colleges averaging 23.2 points per game in 28 contests, the third-best mark in school history...posted school records for three-pointers made (115) and attempted (292)...shot 43.2 percent from the field and 39.6 percent from the three-point stripe...also shot 75.6 percent from the free throw line (127-of-168)...second on the team in assists at 3.4 per game...posted 42 steals and 24 blocks...averaged four three-pointers made per game...made 10 three-pointers vs. Bakersfield in 2001 en route to a 36-point night...coached at Santa Ana by Ray Rodriguez...competed in the Orange Coast Conference...a first-team all-conference and all state pick.
HIGH SCHOOL: Averaged 16 points for Dominguez (Calif.) in 2000-2001 that went 35-2...played in the San Gabriel League and earned letters in baseball, basketball and football...captain of the baseball team in 1998 and 2000 and of the basketball team his senior year...an All-CIF selection from 1998-2000 and Dream Team pick in 1999-2000 and MVP of the 2000 CIF Championship game...all-state pick in 1999-2000...averaged 22 points per game as a freshman for Santa Monica High...averaged 24.3 points per game as a sophomore...averaged 15 points per game as a junior and 19.0 points as a senior...scored 53 points and was perfect in nine three-point attempts in one game.
