One of six seniors on the 2003 NCAA Tournament team and one of four four-year lettermen as he was part of the first fall recruiting class for Rob Evans. A 25-game starter in 2000-2001, Knight played in 118 games in his career and averaged a career-high 28.4 minutes in 2000-2001, second on the team. The only ASU freshmen to start in a season opener from 1993-2001 and the first since Ron Riley in 1992-93. Was one of just seven true freshmen to start opening night in the Pac-10 in 1999, along with Jason Gardner and Gilbert Arenas of Arizona, Joe Shipp, Donte Smith, Brian Wethers of Cal and Jason Kapono of UCLA. Knight was named to the 40-man Parade Magazine All-America team after his senior year. In his senior year (1998-99), he led Corona del Sol Aztecs to 26-7 record and the 5A semifinals. Had four career double-doubles.
Posted 10 points against No. 20 California on Jan. 30 in his senior year, as the Golden Bears entered the game undefeated in the Pac-10 (7-0). Started 24 games and averaged 20.3 minutes. Had 15 points and 12 boards vs. Morehead State in season opener in season-high 37 minutes and had 12 points and 10 boards vs. Nevada on Dec. 10.
In his junior season, he posted back-to-back scoring games vs. Washington State (14 points on Feb. 7) and Washington (10 points on Feb. 9). Made 18-of-21 (.857) free throws in his final 23 games and had seven points and five boards in a season-high 28 minutes at #14 Arizona on Feb. 20. Had 14 points and 10 boards in Feb. 7 win over Washington State in 26 minutes. Posted 12 points in 19 minutes vs. Utah on Dec. 4 at America West Arena.
Posted double digits in 18 games in his sophomore season and started 25 of 29 games. Averaged 11 points and four assists on Oregon road trip (Feb. 1-4) and had 12 points at No. 12 Arizona on Jan. 24. Posted 17 points and six boards vs. No. 24 USC on Jan. 20. Notched first double-double with 15 points and 13 boards at Washington on Jan. 11. Also had 15 points vs. NCAA Tournament-bound Charlotte on Dec. 30 and had 18 points vs. Elite Eight-bound Kent State on Nov. 25.
ASU was 4-1 when he notched double digits in scoring in his freshman year as he averaged nine points, five rebounds and 19.6 minutes in a five-game stretch from Feb. 5-Feb. 19 and was a key part of ASU's four-game winning streak. Knight shot 35-of-61 (.574) from the field in the final 12 games and finished season by making 17-of-18 (.944) free throws in his final nine games. Led ASU with 16 points vs. No. 23 Oregon on Feb. 5.
The state Player of the Year by Phoenix Metro Basketball Magazine and first-team All-Arizona according to the Arizona Republic and the East Valley Player of the Year. Gatorade Mountain Region Player of the Year (1998-99) and named MVP at the NBA Players Association camp in the summer of 1998 in Princeton, New Jersey. Full name is Donnell Dwayne Knight and was born Dec. 5, 1979.
