Batiste Leads ASU Past Weber State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Mike Batiste scored 19 of his game-high 24 points in the second half as Arizona State defeated Weber State 88-79 Monday night for its seventh straight home victory.
Jeremy Veal and Ahlon Lewis each had 19 points and Bobby Lazor added 16 for the Sun Devils (8-3), who have won won five of their last six games.
Damien Baskerville scored 17 points, and Ryan Jama and Alex Fisher each had 14 for the Wildcats (2-7), who have lost four of their last five.
Baskerville scored seven straight Weber State points as the Wildcats trimmed a four-point halftime lead to 69-67 with 8:11 remaining.
Then Batiste made consecutive baskets, the second off an alley-oop pass from Lewis, as Arizona State opened a 73-68 lead with 6:57 to go.
Veal scored 11 of his points in the first half for Arizona State, which led by as many as seven before settling for a 43-39 halftime lead.
Batiste opened the second half with six straight points, the last two coming off a spin move in the low post. He finished 10-of-21 from the floor and also pulled down nine rebounds.
