Ahlon Lewis breaks School Assist Record

TEMPE, Ariz. -- In Arizona State's 87-76 victory over Northern Arizona, guard Ahlon Lewis broke ASU's assist record with 16. The record was last set by Marvell Capers against California on Feb. 9, 1995. Capers recorded 14 assists.

When asked about Lewis' performance, head coach Don Newman had quite a bit to say.

"I'm glad that he came out tonight and broke the school record. He is accepting the role of a floor leader and general. Monday night he had 12 assists and was mad that I took him out but he came out tonight and did it," said Newman.

Jeremy Veal recorded a career high 10 rebounds in the victory against the Lumberjacks.

Newman said, "We stepped it up on defense and we came through with the victory. They are a championship team and this is a rival game but we stepped it up when we needed too," said Newman.

"We have the speed and they are a big team but we pressured them and controlled the ball. I set up a system in order to get good looks at the basket."

Newman said about the week so far, "Two games into the extent of the week and so far two victories."

Newman hopes for an even better record heading into the next road trip. He said, "Hopefully we can leave on Tuesday to Oklahoma six and two because that's our goal."
