Cowboys Beat Arizona State, 79-68

The Cowboys (7-0) used an 8-0 run at the end of the first half to get within nine, then outscored Arizona State 15-2 in the first 4 1/2 minutes of the second half.
The Sun Devils (6-3) got within 59-58 on two free throws by Bobby Lazor with 6:34 remaining, then saw Oklahoma State score eight in a row. Mason had two of those buckets, both on assists from Doug Gottlieb.
Baskets by Eddie House and Mike Batiste got the Sun Devils within 67-62, but a short time later they missed the front end of two straight 1-and-1 chances and got no closer than six in the final four minutes.
Brett Robisch had 16 points and 13 rebounds, and Adrian Peterson had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Oklahoma State. Jeremy Veal scored 16 and Lazor had 13.
Point guard Ahlon Lewis tied his career high in the first half when he scored nine points. The Sun Devils shot 57 percent during the half.
Mason had a fastbreak dunk to cap an 8-3 run that brought the Cowboys within 12-10 with 13:26 left. Then Arizona State outscored the Cowboys 18-4 during the next six minutes to open a 30-14 advantage.
The Sun Devils went 9-for-11 during the run, scoring mostly inside and often in transition that was set up by Oklahoma State misses at the other end.
A follow shot by Veal with 3:10 remaining gave the Sun Devils a 36-19 lead before Oklahoma State scored the final eight points of the half.
