ASU Diving 1996-97 Season Highlights
Men
- Men's Swimming and Diving (Ernie Maglischo/4th Year; Ward O'Connell/23rd
Year): Finished 11th at the National Championships held at
Minneapolis.
- Recorded a 7-4 dual record and a fifth place finish in the
Pac-10.
- The diving team finished first at the Pac-10s for the
second year.
- Junior Justin Eck placed 5th in the 3-meter at the
Pac-10s.
- Freshman Allen Sonkin finished 6th in the Platform.
- Junior Craig
Hutchison earned Academic All-America with a 3.69 grade-point
average.
- Juan Beltran (2nd), Guillermo Diaz De Leon (2nd), Mike Melley
(2nd), Scott Brown (HM) and Jason Hatcher (HM) were Pac-10 All-Academic
selections.
- The swim team earned team All-Academic honors for the seventh
straight semester.
Women
- Women's Swimming and Diving (Tim Hill/12th Year; Ward O'Connell/23rd
Year): Finished in 28th place at the National Championships in
Indianapolis.
- Posted an 8-5 dual record with a sixth place showing at the
Pac-10s.
- Most victories (eight) since 1989-90.
- Sophomore diver Katrina Pfueffer qualified for the
NCAAs where she placed 13th on the platform, earning her All-America
honors.
- Finished fourth on the 3-meter and fifth on the 1-meter and
platform at Pac-10s.
- Pfueffer also made the Pac-10 All-Academic
first-team.
- Seniors Kathryn Williams (2nd) and Melissa Newman (HM) were
also Pac-10 All-Academic selections.
