Coby Cress begins his first season as a member of the baseball staff after spending 2008 as a student-athlete. Cress will be a manager for the Sun Devils in 2009. HeAppeared in six games in 2008, batting .250, scoring two runsand recording his first career hit against UMass on March 9. He is a 2007 graduate of Millenium High School in Goodyear, Arizona where he earned three varsity letters in baseball andwas the team captain as a senior. He was co-West Valley Region Player of the Year as a senior and was also was named Team MVP, Honorable Mention All-State and was invited to play in State All-Star game. Cress wasnamedthe team's Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. He hit .412 for his career, including .459 with 10 home runs and 53 RBI as a senior, all school records. Cress was also a member of the National Honor Society.
He is currently a sophomore at ASU and is an exploratory major.
