ASU: Highly recruited player who was Arizona's top prep player in 2000... great fastball in the low 90's and has a nasty split-finger pitch... teammates describe his "splitty" as one of the toughest pitches on the team... played in the Arizona Collegiate League this past summer... will fill the role as long relief and spot starting.
2001 (Freshman): Made nine pitching appearances during freshman campaign, all out of the bullpen... was 0-0 with a 8.68 ERA... combined to allow 10 hits and nine earned runs in 10.1 innings of work... struck out 13 and walked nine... longest outing of the year was a 2.1 inning effort vs. nationally ranked LSU (3/3)... recorded career-high three K's in that outing vs. the Tigers.
High School: A 2000 graduate of Chandler High School... coached by Mike Johnson... earned two varsity letters on the diamond... captain junior and senior year... named all-conference and all-city junior season... repeated as all-conference, all-city pick as a senior, and added all-State honors as well... as a junior was 12-3 with 123 strikeouts and a 2.35 ERA... posted a 10-2 record as a senior with 170 k's... had a 0.83 ERA his senior year and set school record for strikeouts in a career, single season and a single game (20)... best game as a complete-game shutout of St. Mary's in which he recorded 20 K's... named Gatorade State Player of the Year for Arizona... named USA Today honorable mention All-American.
