WHAT TO KNOW: Has great size and range for the infield position... can play third base, second base or shortstop... possesses one of the strongest arms on the ASU team... has good power at the plate after adding size and strength during his redshirt season last year... good all-around athlete who could blossom into a solid baseball player... a star tennis, basketball and baseball player in high school.
2002 (Freshman): Sat out the 2002 season as a redshirt freshman... added strength and size with an intense conditioning program.
High School: Attended Kent Denver High School in Englewood, Colo... earned four varsity letters each in basketball, baseball and tennis... coached in baseball by Bill Boatman... played for Cherry Creek Connie Mack during the summer... captained all three sports he played during his prep career... on the diamond he set a Kent Denver career record with 24 home runs, including eight during his sophomore year, four during his junior year and 12 during his senior year... named All-League Honorable Mention during his freshman year... during sophomore year he hit .485 with 34 RBI, leading the league in home runs and RBI... first-team all-league and honorable mention all-state... during junior year hit .545 and was named first-team all-state and first-team all-league... in addition to his 12 home runs during his senior year, he hit .500 with eight stolen bases and 34 RBI... named first-team all-state, first-team all-league, named to the All-Colorado team and was a senior Top 40... during his prep career he was also named to the basketball all-state team, tennis all-state team and was the Colorado State Tennis Singles Champion his senior year.
MLB Draft: Selected in the 46th round by the Kansas City Royals in the 2001 June Amateur Draft.
Personal: Pursing a degree in Business Management at ASU... parents are Jerry and Marty Berglund of Littleton, Colo.... both parents work in real estate... has two sisters; Anna (31) and Jana (16), and one brother, Beau (21)... enjoys playing the guitar, skiing and snowboarding... lists his most exciting experience in sports as being drafted by Kansas City in 2001... best individual athletic performance was hitting a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give his team a win in the state playoffs... also recruited by Nebraska, Kansas State, Kansas, Loyola Marymount and Coastal Carolina... was a four-year member of the honor roll in high school... born Dec. 9, 1982 in Denver, Colo.
