Mills, ASU Blank Hawaii-Hilo
HILO, Hawaii - Junior lefthander Ryan Mills did not allow a run in eight innings of work and his teammates pounded out 12 hits as ASU began its five-game series against Hawaii-Hilo with a 7-0 victory. Mikel Moreno and Willie Bloomquist each had three hits to lead ASU's offensive attack.
Mills has not allowed a run and just nine hits in 14 innings of work this season, as he ran his record to 2-0. The Sun Devils gave him a three-run cushion before he ever took the mound, crossing home plate three times in the top of the first inning. After another run in the second inning, Mills made a 4-0 lead stand with seven strikeouts and just two walks until ASU capped the win with three runs in the top of the ninth. Chuck Crumpton pitched the ninth.
ASU and Hawaii-Hilo continue the series Friday with a single game at 9 p.m. MST.
