No. 5 Arizona State Tops the Vulcans of Hawaii-Hilo, 11-2
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The fifth-ranked Arizona State baseball team (5-0, 0-0) defeated Hawaii-Hilo (1-9) 11-2 last night in front of a crowd of 175 at Vulcan Stadium.

The Devils scored four runs in the second inning to get them started. Sophomore Willie Bloomquist singled to left field with one out in the top of the second to drive in two runs. Bloomquist finished the night 3-for-5 scoring one run. Mikel Moreno also contributed going 2-for-5 with two RBI and scoring two runs. Junior lefthander Phill Lowery pitched a spectacular game, throwing three hitless innings. Lowery (2-0) ended the night giving up only three hits and one run in seven innings, picking up the win for the Devils.
Leading the Vulcans was first baseman Anthony Jackson who went 1-for-3 with one RBI on the night. Picking up the loss for Hawaii-Hilo was Tyler Yates who gave up ten hits and seven earned runs in only four innings.
The Sun Devils continue their series with the University of Hawaii-Hilo with a double-header starting tonight at 4 p.m. Arizona time. Junior Colin Call and sophomore Jay Gehrke are expected to take the mound for ASU. The Devils finish up the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
