ASU's Bloomquist Invited to USA Baseball's National Trials

TEMPE, Ariz. - USA Baseball today announced two additional invitations to the 1998 USA Baseball National Team Trials to be conducted next month at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona. These players are as follows:

  • IF Willie Bloomquist, Arizona State, So.
  • RHP Casey Rowe, Fresno State, So.

Bloomquist, a 1997 Collegiate Baseball/TPX Freshman All-American honorable mention, hit a .356 clip last season, collecting 47 hits, 33 runs and 31 RBI. He led the team in triples (5) with former teammate Dan McKinley and was 7-for-10 in the stolen base category.

The 1998 USA Baseball National Team Trials will be conducted from November 5-9, 1997. A group comprised of 66 of the top amateur players in the country will assemble at Hi Corbett Field, home of the USA Baseball and Cactus League spring training home of the Colorado Rockies.

The 66 players will comprise three 22-man teams (Red, White, Blue) and will arrive in Tucson on Wednesday, November 5. The USA Baseball staff will conduct player skills/performance testing on November 6 at Hi Corbett Field. This testing session will be open to Major League Baseball scouts.

From Friday through Sunday, November 7-9, two games will be played each day, following morning workouts. Each team will play a total of four games - two contest versus each of the other two teams.
