Isley Gonzalez is entering her first year as a graduate assistant with the Arizona State University track & field and cross country programs and will assist the Sun Devil coaching staff, including day-to-day operations. Gonzalez comes to Tempe following four years of competing for the track & field and cross country teams at Washington State University.
A four-year letter-winner for the Cougars, Gonzalez was a Second Team All-Pac-10 selection in 2007 after finishing the 5,000m run in eighth place. On the track, she recorded several of the top times in WSU history, including all-time Top 10 marks in the 1,500m (4:34.02), indoor mile (4:57.78), 3,000m (9:27.57), 5,000m (16:18.04) and the 10,000m run.
Gonzalez also was highly successful academically as she garnered numerous accolades from the school, conference and national organizations. A three-time WSU President's Honor Roll selection, Gonzalez was honored three times by the Pac-10, including all-academic selections in cross country (once) and track and field (twice). The U.S. Track & Field, Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) also named her to its national all-academic team following the 2009 track & field season. Gonzalez graduated with a B.A. in Elementary Education from WSU in December 2008.
A native of Sunnyside, Wash., Gonzalez collected a trio of state high school titles, including the 2003 state title in cross country. On the track, she twice won the state championship in the 3,200m run, taking crowns in 2002 and 2004. During all four years of her prep career, she was named to the All-Bowerman Team, which honors the top runners in both Washington and Oregon.
Following her senior track season at WSU and coming to Tempe, she competed in the Seattle Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon and covered the 13.1-mile course in 1:20:14. That time placed her third overall among women's entrants as she also was the first American and first Washington resident to complete the run.
Along with working with the Sun Devil program, Gonzalez also is currently pursuing a Masters of Education degree in Higher Education and Postsecondary Education at ASU.
