Cross Country at NCAA West Region Championships

The Sun Devil cross country teams competed in the NCAA West Region Championships Saturday in Portland, Ore.

Arizona State: Collected her first collegiate All-America honor by finishing 39th at the 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships... ranks ninth all-time in ASU history in the 1500m run, clocking a time of 4:24.51... 2009 Track: Did not compete... 2008 XC: Was the team's top finisher in five races on the season, including her 39th-place finish at the NCAA Championships that earned her All-America honors for the first time... earned All-West Region honors by finishing 10th overall after taking All-Pac-10 Second Team honors by finishing ninth at the conference meet... won her first collegiate race by capturing the Roy Griak Invitational in 21:18.40... also was the race runner-up at the Dave Murray Invitational behind teammate Ali Kielty... 2008 Outdoor: Lowered her outdoor personal-best times in the 800m and 1500m runs... won the Baldy Castillo Invitational 800m run in 2:09.86... ran 4:24.51 in the 1500m at the Sun Angel Track Classic... 2008 Indoor: Provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000m run... clocked a personal best 9:29.00 at the Husky Classic... scored at the MPSF Championships by placing fourth in the 3,000m run... ran a personal-best indoor mile at 4:48.56... 2007 XC: Placed 50th at the NCAA Championships to help team to a trophy finish (fourth place)... earned all-region accolades after finishing 25th for the second year in a row... selected All-Pac-10 Second Team after finishing 12th overall... selected as the team's Most Improved athlete... placed second overall at the Dave Murray Invitational to help team to victory... was the team's top finisher at the Roy Griak Invitational, placing fourth overall to help ASU to second-place finish... placed 21st at the NCAA Pre-National meet to help team to second-place finish... 2007 Outdoor: Scored at the Pac-10 Championships, placing fifth in the 1,500m run in a personal-best 4:24.62... finished 15th at the NCAA West Region meet in the same event... won her only 800m competition, taking the Double Dual in 2:09.89... placed fourth in a personal-best time of 16:47.64 in the Stanford Invitational 5,000m run... 2007 Indoor: Redshirted... 2006 XC: Despite being sidelined for several weeks midway through the year, came back strong to place 88th at the NCAA Championships... earned All-Region honors by finishing 25th at the NCAA West Region meet... finished 21st in the Pac-10 meet, her first meet back after a one-month layoff... opened her career finishing third at the Dave Murray before taking 61st at the Roy Griak... placed third (22:04 in the 6,000m race) at the 2007 USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder, Colo., and made the U.S. world team, but did not compete at the meet in Kenya.

High School: A 2006 graduate of Queen Creek High School (Queen Creek, Ariz.)... one of the more decorated athletes in Arizona prep history... won six individual track & field titles, two cross country titles and helped team win three track & field crowns... won cross country, 800m, 1,600m and 3,200m runs as a senior... added 3,200m, 4x400m relay and cross country as a junior and 4x800m relay as a sophomore... also finished runner-up in cross country twice and was second in the 800m run (once), 1,600m run (twice) and 3,200m (once)... captured five regional crowns as a senior, including cross country, 800m, 1,600m, 3,200m and 4x400m relay titles... holds the three state 3A records, including 3,200m (10:41), 4x400m relay (4:01) and 4x800m relay (9:36) and two 4A state marks, including the 800m (2:11.3) and 3,200m (10:26)... her 10:26 also ranks as the third-fastest in the history of Arizona... also holds three state meet records... clocked a 17:01 at the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational in 2005, the 10th-fastest all-time in the meet's history... earned all-state in track and field and cross country all four years... competed in the 2005 FootLocker West Region race, placing sixth, before finishing 26th nationally... the Arizona Republic selected her as the 2006 East Valley and State Female Athlete of the Year... East Valley Tribune selected her best in the state in 2006... named the top cross country runner by both publications in 2005... won the 1,500m run and 3,200m run at the Great Southwest Invitational in 2006 and the 3,200m run in 2005.

Personal: Major is exploratory... parents are Shaun and Ellie Hardt... has three brothers: Sherod, Jayce and Denton; and one sister: Whitney, a former member of the ASU cross country and track & field teams... father Shaun played football for Northern Arizona; uncle Clay played football at Arizona; grandfathers Jack Spillsbury and Jiggs Hardt played football at ASU Teachers College... born May 13, 1988, in Tucson, Ariz.... hobbies include organizing, shopping, dancing and spending time with family members... full name is Kari Lynn Hardt.
