2008 Track: Redshirted... 2007 XC: Redshirted... ran in three races as an unattached athlete... placed 12th at the Canyon West Classic.
High School: A 2007 graduate of Pt. Pleasant Borough High School (Pt. Pleasant, N.J.)... lettered four times each in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track... captain of the cross country team twice and the track teams once each... twice selected as the MVP of the cross country team and both track teams... earned NJSIAA Scholar-Athlete Award and has attained Eagle Scout status.
Personal: Majoring in design studies/urban planning... parents are Mark Cardinale and Tara Roig... uncle Gary Williky competed for the Sun Devils and still holds the school record in the shot put (20.78m in 1982)... uncle Glen Lyons (track & field at East Tennessee) and cousin Meg Gardner (equestrian at Roger Williams) also compete in athletics in college... born February 20, 1989, in Pt. Pleasant, N.J.... hobbies include camping, reading and anything active and outdoors... full name is Derek Taylor Cardinale.
