Arizona State Soccer Heads to Utah

Sun Devils Seek Fourth and Fifth Road Wins

ON TAP: The Arizona State University women's soccer team (3-0-0, 1-0-0 Pac-10) will round out its two week, five game road swing this weekend when they face the University of Utah (1-3-0, 0-1-0 WAC) and Utah State (0-2-0, 0-0-0 Big West) on Friday, at 4 p.m. and Sunday, at 12 p.m. respectively.

A WEEK AGO: Arizona State traveled down I-10 to Tucson to face the University of Arizona and came away with its third straight win of the season, defeating the Wildcats 2-1. After not scoring in the first half and only posting five shots, ASU came out fired up in the second half and put up two scores. At the 71:55 mark, freshman Jaclyn Clark took a rebound from a shot and put in the goal with an assist from sophomore Sarah Blaska. Twelve minutes later, freshman Karine Inoue scored the game-winner with assists from freshman Antoinette Marjanovic and Jaclyn Clark. Inoue's goal was her second in as many games and leads the team in goals (2) and points (4). The Sun Devils' stingy defense allowed Arizona only nine shots, while ASU tallied 17 on the night. The Sun Devils now lead the series 3-0, after sweeping the Wildcats last season.

ABOUT THE COMPETITION: The Univertsity of Utah split their last two matches, losing 3-0 to New Mexico and winning 1-0 against Illinois State. Sophomore forward Staci Burt leads the team in points with four (2 goals). Junior keeper Tawni Martineau has a 1.33 goals against average in three games. Utah has been outscored 15-3 in its past four games. Utah State is coming off a pair of losses, one to Northern Arizona 2-3 and the other to Texas-El Paso 0-3. Leading the Aggies are senior Courtney Stephens (1 goal) and freshman Marnie Bartelson (1 goal). Sophomore goalkeeper Hyer Mackenzie has a 2.67 GAA and has made nine saves. Before the Sun Devils arrive in Utah, the Aggies and Utes will face off against one another today in Logan.
