Elite Soccer Player Transfers to ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State's soccer program has added former Pepperdine University standout Jennifer "J.P." Peterson to its 1998 team, head coach Terri Patraw announced Tuesday.

Peterson, a local product from Scottsdale, Arizona (Horizon High School), led Pepperdine in goals scored (9), assists (6), total points (24) and game-winning goals (3) as a sophomore. In her two years as the Waves' main scoring threat, Peterson compiled 21 goals, 13 assists for 55 total points.

Peterson was a two-time first-team All-West Coast Conference selection (the first Pepperdine freshman player to ever receive such an honor) and earned Player of the Week honors from Soccer America.

As a freshman, Peterson was selected by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Umbro All-America Committee as a third-team All-West Regional pick. She also garnered All-Far West Regional third-team honors by Soccer Buzz.

"J.P. will be a great addition to our group returning this year," said Patraw. "She is one of the top forwards in the country who should definitely help our program into postseason play."

In addition to Peterson for the 1998 campaign, ASU will have the services of Stacey Tullock who transferred from Notre Dame last year.

The Sun Devils, in only their second year as a program, posted a 11-7-1 overall record last year. ASU will begin its 1998 regular season action, August 28 against Northern Arizona.
