TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State diving squad and women’s swim team will travel to the Pacific Northwest this week to compete in the 2013 Pac-12 Championships in Federal Way, Wash. Competition at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center opens Wednesday night and continues through Saturday night.

The No. 25 women’s swimming team will face off against eight other conference schools, including five other nationally ranked teams: No. 1 USC, No. 2 Cal, No. 4 Stanford, No. 6 Arizona, and No. 14 UCLA. The Sun Devils will aim to qualify for NCAA competition as well as potentially break previous school records, particularly in freestyle events and the 800 and 400 freestyle relays. Breaststroke contestants Tory Houston and Alex Popa will look to best previous times, as will backstroke participants Juanita Barretto, Lizzy Luttrell and Melanie Busch.

The men and women’s diving teams will also face tough competition in the diving well. The men’s field includes traditional Pac-12 schools Arizona, California, Stanford, USC and Utah but also Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara. Senior Harrison Jones will venture to capitalize on a stellar season, having won Pac-12 Diver of the Month twice over the course of the year. The women’s team, consisting of Hailey Casper, Sydney Czaus and Morgan Weller, has already seen school records fall this season and aspires to continue their dominating performances this week.

The official schedule of events as well as results from each day of competition will be posted on the Pac-12 website, along with ticket information.
