TEMPE, AZ--In the final home meet of the season the Arizona State Women's gymnastics team beat the Bridgeport Purple Knights 195.450-192.150.
In her debut all-around performance, Sophomore Nickie Johnson took first place with a score of 39.075. Senior Beaté Jones took second place hitting an all-around score of 39.050. Brideport's Monica Mesalles took third place scoring a 39.000. Freshman Samantha Seaman scored a 38.950 in her all-around debut of the season.
The Gym Devils started strong on vault scoring a season-high team score of 49.225. Beaté Jones led the Gym Devils hitting a season-high of 9.900, taking second place. Taking third in the competition, Seaman nailed a career-high score of 9.875. Callie Price nailed her landing tying her season-high of 9.825. In her first vault of the season, Johnson tallied a season-high of 9.825. Senior Brittany Schuett posted a solid 9.800. Senior Carly McMahon took one hop on her landing scoring a 9.700.
Stephanie Hangartner led the Gym Devils on bars sticking her routine to tie a career-high of 9.825. Emily Warfield performed a clean routine scoring a 9.800. Jones was loose on her blind change but hit the landing to tally a 9.750. Johnson hit her skills posting a solid 9.700. Seaman posted 9.675 while Christina Salavec tallied 9.425. The Gym Devils hit a team total of 48.750.
Moving to beam in the third rotation, where Seaman hit a solid 9.725. Snowden nailed her landing scoring a 9.700. Kelly Jones had a few small wobbles to post a 9.600. Johnson wobbled on her series scoring a 9.675 while Reilly tallied a 9.575. Salavec hit her skills but stumbled on the landing to post a 9.400. The Gym Devils compiled a team total of 48.275.
Finishing the competition on floor, Snowden performed a crowd-pleasing performance tying a career-high of 9.925.Johnson hit her routine tying her season-high of 9.875. Schuett had a great amount of energy and power throughout her routine tying a career-high of 9.850. Jones hit posting a 9.800. Salavec hit her passes tallying a solid 9.750. Seaman performed a career floor debut scoring a 9.675. The Gym Devils tied their season-high floor total of 49.200.
Next week, the Gym Devils travel to California to compete in the Pac-10 Championships hosted by UCLA on March 19 at 4:00 p.m. PT.
